Old-school vibe and looks for the vintage enthusiast, with high-fidelity and better playability.

New for 2011, Ray34 Classic Active Series electric bass guitar has a lightweight slab body with no belly or forearm contours. The glossy, amber-tinted neck features a narrow 38 mm nut width; 34" scale; and 21 thin, vintage-style frets. The finish is a hard glossy coat that exudes the vibe and look of an older instrument.

The Music Man-designed 2-band active preamp features volume, treble, and bass controls. The preamp and pickup were re-voiced for this model for a more organic feel and are noise-free. The classic three-tone sunburst finish is paired with an amber-tinted maple neck and black pickguard for that classic old-school look.

      Includes a gig bag.

      AWESOME BASS!!!!

Comments about Sterling by Music Man Ray34 Classic Active Electric Bass Guitar:

I am very impressed with the Ray34 CA. I was worried about ordering a guitar on line. I have always played my guitars in stores before I purchased them. The Ray34 CA arrived at my door..... unboxed it.... and it was set up and in tune. I am very happy with my purchase. If something happened to this bass, I would have to get another......... I just might do that anyway
Plays just as good as a Classic Stingray
      .......at 1/3 of the price!!!

      Good stuff

Comments about Sterling by Music Man Ray34 Classic Active Electric Bass Guitar:

Sounds great. Haven't played it a whole lot but I'm loving every moment of it. Well worth the $$$ and well worth the enjoyment you get from playing a good bass.
Do note, though, that despite the lack of its mention in the product description and the lack of a picture indicating so, YOU DO GET A GIG BAG with the bass, which is awesome (despite online and the phone indicating otherwise). Found this out the hard way and I now have to return the surplus gig bag I got. Minor detail, but it will save you the hassle of looking for a gig bag (or, having to return the extra gig bag when you find out the bass already comes with one, heh).
Humbucking picking with an Active 2-Band EQ. It has the low-end growl of a P with a neck more close to a Jazz (nut width is smaller than the regular Ray34s). You can get a wide range of tones from slap-worthy tones to stuff more resembling old passive Ps and Js.

If you don't like the low-end growl of a P, it's probably not a good idea to get this one. It's really helpful to do your research before and see if you're looking for J, a P, or a Stingray (and, presuming you already did, you're looking for a Stingray)...so if you're looking for one, this bass hits it pretty spot on. I'm presuming by looking at this page you already know you're looking for a Stingray, so you should know what you're getting into. It sounds near-identical to a USA Stingray, which was the idea; they pulled it off.
The fretwork is pretty solid (might be a very tiny bit a fret buzz. I can't tell right now, though it's nothing that isn't simple to address), but most of all the bass just looks great. The three-tone burst looks awesome, and the neck is well-crafted and looks beautiful. You really can't tell it's made abroad (except, obviously, for the Sterling and "Made in Indonesia" decals on the bass).

Be aware that the neck is a glossy finish, so you may want to steer clear if that's not your jive. Personally I think it feels pretty great, so I didn't mind one bit.
It sounds great, it looks great, and most importantly, you can get a ton of different tones. The Ray34CA plays impressively, and can compete with the more expensive basses for a fraction of the cost. I probably wouldn't say it's a carbon copy, but it's close and on a budget, it's hard to beat.

one of the BEST BUYS of all time

Comments about Sterling by Music Man Ray34 Classic Active Electric Bass Guitar:

I am lucky enough to own several very high quality basses from fender, Warwick, G&L. and Music Man. after owning and playing the RAY CLASSIC34 for several months now, it has become my favorite gigging bass. I think that it has more snap and growl than my USA Music Man with the traditional three EQs. For whatever reason, I just like the sound and feel of this pick up and EQ set up better than any active bass I have ever played. I love the deep amber maple neck and the intonation was the best I have ever gotten right out of the box. The neck has a good sturdy feel to it, a little more like a P BASS rather than a JAZZ. and, to top it off, I think it is one of the most beautiful basses I have seen. The deep burst with the black pick guard and the deep amber neck all work together to create a beautiful instrument in my humble opinion. I honestly do not know how you can get a better instrument for the price. The closest I could recommend would be a G&L Tribute SB2 which is also a very solid bass and great value. But, I think the CLASSIC34 is more versatile and more attractive of an instrument. It has to be the best "second brand" ever made.
I highly recommend this bass for any level of player.
This is a great sounding, playing, and looking instrument. I love the voicing of the pups and the two band EQ better than my USA made sterling. the maple neck is gorgeous and is very solid.
I like the sound and feel of this bass better than any MUSIC MAN, USA., or not, that I have ever played. Sounds great. Plays great. Looks great.
I do not know how you could possibly get a much better bass paying three times more for the USA version. I am gigging with it and loving it.
This has to be the best bang for your buck available right now as a bass guitar.
