New for 2011, Ray34 Classic Active Series electric bass guitar has a lightweight slab body with no belly or forearm contours. The glossy, amber-tinted neck features a narrow 38 mm nut width; 34" scale; and 21 thin, vintage-style frets. The finish is a hard glossy coat that exudes the vibe and look of an older instrument.
The Music Man-designed 2-band active preamp features volume, treble, and bass controls. The preamp and pickup were re-voiced for this model for a more organic feel and are noise-free. The cool mint green finish is complemented by a white pickguard and rosewood fretboard.

My friend has a Classic MusicMan, and as soon as I heard of this baby's I got to get one to give them a chance. We play both through an Eden WT500 Highwayman Head and a GK 4x10 MBE cabin. Truth is you got to be Superman and have a heaven of an ear to find a difference in sound for both. No matter what style you play this kid delivers from Metal to Jazz to Salsa! I give a cons on weight, cause it ain't no light ash at 11lbs. I have a misfortune I dislocate my shoulder and can't play it other way than to be seat. But otherwise it's awesome specially the mint green color that I owe.

For a 4 string bass, it's got everything you want. 2 band EQ, master volume. Everythings works as it should, treble, bass and volume all seem to have a fairly even gradient on the knobs, it's not the most complex piece of equipment but it's a bass!
Fantastic fit and finish for the money, the neck pocket is a tad sloppy, but nothing notable unless you're looking for it (I always am). Great sprayjob, great fretwork, no bad edges, no buzz, neck is straight as you could want. Hardware isn't quite up to scratch with the ernie ball big brothers, but for under a grand you couldn't expect it to be. Pickup is great - very much on par with the USA counterparts.
Absolutely blown away by the bang for the buck. Has the build quality of a bass 4x more expensive. Blows mexican fenders out of the water in terms of value for money, sounds fantastic, looks an absolute treat. Do not be put off by the sterling nametag - this is a serious musicman bass.

After lots of playing and comparing to other basses I have, high and low end, I hate how these pickups sound-they're way too percussive, to the point that it detracts from the overall rating of the bass.Sounds kinda like a thump or thud with each note and a bit annoying. I plan to keep the bass cause I love the color and quality but I'm gonna change the pups to Barts or Basslines

Sounds and plays like my friends $1300 music man. Very percussive, great clear tone like a music man. Great tuners. The mids and highs sound great. Just because it's made in indonesia and assembled here DOES NOT mean the quality is lacking. I play it through my Tech 21 bass driver DI and it sounds amazing.

A while back I purchased a Sterling Ray 34 silverburst and although it sounded awesome and looked great I sent it back. Well, cut to about a year later and it's like the folks at Sterling MM read my mind and fixed my only problem with it- the thickness of the neck. They cut it to 38mm which is a lot more comfortable and when I saw the awesome color I had to pull the trigger again. Also I just can't imagine paying that much more for a Music Man when this is as well constucted, great sounding and playable as it is. My only complaint is the weight; its a bit heavy but that kinda adds to it's sturdy construction so definitely not even close to a deal breaker for me. I'm not trying to gush but the mint green color is gorgeous, even my wife says so. Retooled humbucker pu close to the bridge position which should be able to dial in any tone you may be looking for. I say grab one now, these babies are not gonna stay in the warehouse long.
