Comments about Tobias Toby Standard-IV Electric Bass:
I bought this bass to keep in E flat because I dislike changing tunings on more expensive instruments. It's never going to compete with those, but for the money it's hard to go wrong here. I've played a lot worse basses that cost much more. The fit and finish is exceptional for this price range. The neck is buzz-free and fairly fast, but I'm having to get used to no fretboard inlays - only dots on the side. It's a very light bass, and somewhat lacking in low-mid punch, but it has fairly bright new strings on it, so that's a controllable variable. I only gave it a 4 for two reasons: The neck inlay thing, and the bridge pickup is stuck in place, probably due to inadequate clearance - fortunately it's at the right height. I played several of the Deluxe model as well, and they all seemed pretty consistent - I just didn't want active pickups, and these are passive. Take a look at these if you're a beginner or on a tight budget, or just need a specialty bass for certain things. Possibly a good platform for experimenting with electronics too.
