My Yamaha TRB 1004 is with out a doubt , the best sounding and playing guitar in my collection. From the pro finish to the pick-ups, nothing but quality. The machines do not slip, and the bridge is massive and stable. The 35 inch scale takes a little bit to get used to, but you will be playing this guitar so much more than your others ,it will hardy be noticeable after the first few minuets. I have fender custom shop guitars that do not equal the TRB 1004 in sound or playability ! Truly a boutique piece at a bargin price !!Simply put; A must have !!
I've played some over the top expensive instruments in the years I've been playing. Once I found this beauty, I couldn't help but wonder why I spent my cash on those things when i could have this bad dog for so little. The action is FAST, FAST, FAST. The tone is excellent. I've received nothing but compliments on this thing, and I'd reccomend it to anyone looking to get that pro sound on a budget, or frankly, not on a budget also.
Even though I am a drummer, I occasionally play bass when needed for recording or filling in for a small gig. Anyways, I was recording with my friend Matt at his studio and since I don't have a bass, his dad let me borrow his bass, which happened to be this bass. Right when I plugged it in, the thundering low end gave me goosebumps and blew my mind. I had fallen in love. This bass has excellent tone, good balance, and a comfortable feel. My only complaints are that the neck would sometimes tend to make my hands a bit sore while playing for long periods of time and the knobs were a bit hard to get used to. But other than that, a wonderful bass that I would love to purchase.
I've had mine for almost a year and it just sounds good, regardless of the situation. Both pickups are very usable on their own and the blended tone is nice and modern. The eq works great and has plenty of versatility. And, a 4 string with a 35" scale? It's about time!Everything on this bass is put together extremely well and it balances just great! My one complaint: the recessed output jack makes it impossible to use right angle cables.
I want to preface this review by saying that I have been playing bass on and off for 35 years. I have bought and sold some really great bass guitars. However, looking back over the basses I have owned, this new Yamaha TRB1004 is by far the most versatile bass I have ever owned. You'll note that my ratings are very high. This is based on "bang for the buck." The 35 scale bass is as stunning to look at as it is to play. The construction is what I would expect from much higher-end guitars. The 3 band EQ, pickup blend and volume controls are perfectly located and easy to understand. I can dial in any tone I want based on the type of music I am playing from a great funk slap-pop, to a low EBO sounding bottom. This has also been the easiest bass I have owned to adjust the setup to my liking. I have played this bass with a number of guitarists, keyboard players and drummers. They all have commented on how much better I sound. Other bass players have come up to me after a show to talk about it. Every time I pick it up I'm amazed that I got such a great bass... one that plays and sounds like it's worth three times what I paid. The 35 scale may throw bassists used to 34 scale basses of for a short time. I got used to the additional length quickly. I would seriously recommend that if you're looking for a new bass to give this one a long look. It may be exactly what you are looking for.
My lovely wife bought this bass for my birthday; wow, what an ax! The sound of this bass is just amazing as is the playability; it just blows out of the water some of the more expensive basses out, never mind the one's in the same price range. I took mine to the luthier for a good setup, as it looked like it had been display for a while. I also added a Badass II bridge and Hipshot tuners, the bass just smokes now. I highly recommend this bass to anyone that is on a budget and still has a craving for a better bass; you can't go wrong!!! I only marked this bass 4.5 on the features because I did not like the stock bridge and tuners, the sound of the stock Yamaha pick-ups is to die for.
I purchased this bass. What a bass! I have owned Warwick, Ibanez, Fender, Peavey, Cort, Squire and a hand built custom. I have played many many other brands as well. I kid you not, this bass is the best one yet! I have been playing for fourteen years, and I have never had such an easier time dialing tones in. The electronics and pickups are top notch. The fit and finish is beautifull. The neck is smooth and fast. The fretboard is gorgeous and I can see myself in it. The fret work is nicer than my custom. I could not possibly be happier with this bass. It is truly the best bass out there for the money. I was a yamaha skeptic but now I am a lifer! Buy this BASS!!!!!!!!!
When I say "Gnarly Bass" it is 100% Bad to the Bone. The look of axe is as great as the way it sounds and plays. I have owned some very high dollar and big time name bass guitars however this axe will slap the taste out of thier face. The action is super fast and the EQ sounds great, the low end makes your teeth crack and your guts roll. I play everything from Country to bang your head Metal and this axe has it covered for under A thousand bucks that is unreal. I played a 5k$ bass and it has nothing on this chopper so do yourself a favor and get one ASAP!!!
