Get bass guitar lessons from a master player!

Learn how to lock into an airtight groove with Berklee professor and versatile bassman Danny Morris. In this Berklee Workshop, Morris gives you playing techniques to help you anchor your band with a solid foundation of bass lines, chord progressions, and rhythmic and harmonic variations. Working with and without a drum machine, Morris breaks down the secrets of syncopation, rhythmic displacement, left-hand muting, and more. His practical music lessons will help you build your bass vocabulary, play with more variety and character, and keep your grooves in the pocket.

Danny Morris is a versatile bassist, author, and Berklee professor who has performed with rock pioneer Bo Diddley, blues masters Buddy Guy and James Cotton, and New England's premier Calypso band, Calypso Hurricanes. He also performed on many Caribbean tours as a member of the James Montgomery Band. At Berklee, he has helped thousands of students develop their bass skills; his students have gone on to play with Duran Duran, Dave Mason, and many other well-known acts.

This DVD is not worth your $

Comments about Berklee Press Essential Rock Grooves for Bass (DVD):

I am sorely disappointed in this DVD. Danny Morris certainly seems like a talented bassist and super nice guy, but I would not buy this video again, and would actually return it if it was a returnable item. Here are the issues I have with this DVD:1) It's short...really short, like in 45 minutes or so. The actual instructional material in this video is even less, around 30 minutes if that.2) Danny plays maybe 3 or 4 different riffs in this video. That's it.3) There's a short discussion of left and right hand muting. I didn't find it to be anything I didn't figure out on my own my first month of playing bass (which was over 10 years ago).4) Too much of the already short video is wasted with the introductory discussions between Danny and some other character who apparently needed to be in this video to feed his ego.5) Danny talks about how to lock in with the drummer. In my opinion, if a bassist can't naturally lock in with a drummer, then the bassist should find a new hobby. This isn't new material...every single book or video makes this point. In general, the material in this video is too shallow for a beginner, nothing new for an intermediate bassist (where I fall), and worth be totally worthless to an advanced bassist. Spend your money elsewhere. My only rating as high as average is the quality of the DVD, and I'm only giving that a 5 with the production quality of the video in mind, not the quality of the content.

This vid is boring and cheesy. Makes you wonder how this guy got to make his own DVD. Go with the Abe Laboriel vid instead.
