    i don't keep a g-tar tech in my pocket

    By TONAL CONTROL PRS/LES PAUL

Comments about Alfred Teach Yourself Guitar Repair and Maintenance (Book/DVD):

the best wat to purchase is book/dvd instead of just book, u can watch dvd 1-2 times and then keep book in case or tool bag for reference this dvd covered all for me, I just wanted to be able to adjust my own truss rod and esp. action, yes when i gig i take 6 of 10 g-tars w/ me but 4 are for songs were i need completely diff. tone and 2 are tuned way out there 1 very low and flat and 1 sharp and 1-2 steps up after started w/ low e# c# f# g# b# e#, anyway i think if you are going to play rather your a hobbyist or an active musician this book/dvd is essential, tone is what we all strive for and 9 out of ten techs when an axe is dropped off for tune up it goes to factory specs if it gets moved at all this starts with truss- rod adjustments has specs printed in book so after learning you can look at book, tone is so affected by string legnth on saddle type stop bar like strat. ACTION i read reviews all the time about an axe thats a good buy if the action was better/faster and once guy said beginner axe of some kind( iforget)good deal but strings are mile away from fingerboard &frets on that stopbar style w/ tune-o-matic bridge like LP,SG, and some PRS guitars it shows you in 10 mins. how to adjust that bridge w/ a ruler and a capo and goes all the way thru to floyd rose systems, i have one ibanez w/ floyd rose system used to hate all but locking nut cause wether floyd rose or strat style trem system i never use sissy bar, but i liked the stay-n-tune and the thumbscrewtuners on the rose but if you broke a string, not just replace it but have to retune entire system, even at times going in back were tensioner springs sre, well its things like that john will tell u all about, and now my rose is strung from tuning keys to trem so i dont cut ring stops off strings my ring ends are up on headstock at tuners 2-3 turns is all guaranteed no slippage these are things we all should know i got cause all my axes wether 2-PRS,1 LP STANDARD,1 LP STUDIO, 1 EPI LP STUDIO,1 LTD EC-1000, 1 IBANEZ RG4FROSE,1 60 reissue SG,2010 EPI LP SLASH APPETITE, & 1 AMER. HSS FENDER STRAT BULLET, all the epiphones except the new appetite have been completely rewired right when i purchased them CTS pots, sprague orange drop capacitors .022/400v, switchcraft 3 way toggle, and 1 has s. duncan antiquitys, 1 has s. duncan seth lover bridge, and the active p/u in the LTD EC-1000 i swapped from the great emg 81/60's to duncan blackouts, so as i was saying if i can change strings, change p/u's & eclectronics why not adjust myself and although i didnt know it it even gave me tricks on soldering i didnt know to make it easier and cleaner. if all u learn is adjusting action at your style of bridge or trem and not even the action at the nut then this book/dvd is worth every penny ive rear and browsed others this is far and away way out front!!!!!!!!!!!!5 stars

The information in this book is so basic a google search would yeild the same information. Maybe buy it if you dont know how to change strings, but other than that, save your money.

Comments about Alfred Teach Yourself Guitar Repair and Maintenance (Book/DVD):

I purchased this book and was quite disappointed. It is very, very basic and doesn't carry enough information to get you through completly on any type of guitar. I guess it's okay if you would just like to learn basic basics.
