Comments about Alfred Teach Yourself To Play Guitar Deluxe Edition CD-ROM:
The advertisement for this software says that it has 60 popular songs. That is misleading . I bought this course because i found it for only 7 dollars. I also bought one for my brother. It is ok but when it gets time for the practice you can only see 1 , and at times 2 , lines of the music. I went through a couple of the lessons and found this to be a problem. You can move forward through the lesson tune with a play and fast forward button as well as pause it But this is not acceptable . You cant print the music either. So , my solution was to order The book Alfred's Teach Yourself to Play Guitar. The software claims to be based on that book anyway. The videos that are in the software are not that helpful at all to be honest they are very short and the size of them cannot be adjusted as the window that they open in is fixed. The package claims to teach several major genres of music but that is also misleading I feel as the lessons for rock , country , blues , etc. are just made up and remind me of something my mom would teach one of her 6 year old piano students. But don't be confused, i don't think there is enough video instruction to help a child play correctly. For example , one of the beginning videos is about the proper way of holding the guitar. The man in the video says " There are several correct ways of holding a guitar.. Sitting , like this .. with your legs crossed, like this.. and standing , like this ." Then he merely says try all 3 positions and the video is over. This is one of the boasted lessons in the advertisement of the product but when you open the program you find that there are really only 19 lessons with sub lessons (several tunes to play through out the week.) I am very disappointed in the software it just doesn't teach you to play real songs of the claimed genres. Just songs like Aura Lee and Jingle Bells and other lame songs songs you teach a child but with out the instruction a child would need to play them correctly.
