Comments about Alfred Virgil Donati Double Bass Drum Freedom (Book/CD):
The charts are easy to see and read. Virgil's approach is also very good as expected. The first part of the book deals with doing the same things with your left as you do with your right with our feet. I also have a local teacher I go to from time to time and he works out of this book as well. I have been playing for eight years and I want to understand the time signatures and improve on my reading and this book is probably the best book I have found for this. Honestly the difference between good drummers and great drummers are good drummers play good and great drummers play good but can account for every note they hit within a given time signature thus not limiting ones ability to play anything that can be written. This becomes useful for reference and can be quite a demand if it becomes necessary to any assigned job where one needs to see more than hear to get in the groove if any questions arise. The CD is also very helpful for reference but I have not needed to use it directly because the charts are pretty simple and streight forward. The book also states that Virgil is playing all the examples with a Pearl Eleminator with the blue cams. Just play it slowly and correctly and watch ,...the speed will achieve you more than you will achieve speed!
