Turn those standard 26 rudiments into mind-blowing grooves, fills, and solos.

All that rhythmic sophistication you hear great drummers do can easily be broken down into its basic elements: the rudiments. Rudiments are the drum language; a basic vocabulary of rhythms that drummers arrange and rearrange when they play grooves, solos, and fills. This book shows you how to apply them to the drum set in all styles of music. When you start combining the hands and feet, orchestrating different parts of the rudiments between the various drums and cymbals on your set, you'll start to make inspired music.

50 illustrated grooves are reinforced with the accompanying CD; hear how the rudiments sound when you apply them to the drum set. Discover how these basics become the foundation for all grooves and moves, including:

Single and Double Strokes

Stroked Rolls

Paradiddles double paradiddles, paradiddle grooves and fills

Your choices of accents, tempos, style, and feel are what will ultimately make the rudiments into music. Learning and internalizing them will help you expand your vocabulary to play creative grooves, fills, and solos. Rudiment Grooves for Drum Set

Comments about Berklee Press Rudiment Grooves for Drum Set (Book/CD):

This is the only publication out there that explains adapting rudiments to a kit that I've seen. And since most of this stuff (rudiment sheets) are free one place or another, handed down, how to justify buying more of it? He starts off with all 26, then gets into exercises. This is not for a beginner, on their own book... if you've played for a year or so, can read music or have a Mentor/Teacher this will give you the variety you might seek at this time to play something different. That's what it did for me. In about an hour I had some, new for me, stuff coming out of my head, no music, just drums... drum music! Negatives - the CD, while I have not gone through it entirely, here's why... he goes a bit fast. He does the rudiment, then several adaptations of his own. I don't slowdowner SW on my CD player! He could slowdown, very slow, then explain his adaptations, then slow, then regular speed. Also the sound sources should be tuned wide from low to high to better "get" what his is adapting. Otherwise, why have a CD, ...not to show me how good this Berkeley instructor is? I know, I bought the book!Anyway, little money, well spent, but not for a self teaching beginner, unless very independent like me or has a Mentor/Teacher.
