This is a great learning tool, better than books or videos. Completly interactive!!! It has tons of lessons and examples you can use to practice according to your skill level. If you think a lesson is to tough for you then go back a few lessons and try them again. You can slow down or speed up all songs using the included midi files with a visual fretboard in case you forget a particular chord. In addittion to the visual fretboard the program includes a chord dictionary where you can find more than 250 chords!Lessons are progressive, meaning that new lessons are built based on previous excersices plus adding new information as you go through the course. You'll find mini chord test in the program to test your new acquired knowledge. Another usefull feature is that you can highlight a whole song or just part of the song you are having problem with, and have the program repeat that part over an over again untill you feel confortable with the song. The program makes referece to OLGA (On-Line Guitar Archive) where you can find 100's of songs for your skill level. If you find the songs to be boring you can always look for the ones you like at OLGA.Conclusion: This software is the best interactive learning tool I have found. I have a couple of books and videos and none can be compared to eMedia Guitar Method. I recommend this software 100% ... and remember to .... practice ... practice ... and practice ... because practice is the mother of all skills!!!

It's like this software was written in the early 80's. Very primative, hard to navigate. And songs come to a stop right in the middle; supposedly they then continue on the next page but I have yet to get that to work. It's very distracting. When trying to go to full screen mode it changes the resolution settings of your monitor. But what really gets my goat about this software is that you have to insert the cd for the videos to run. With the size of harddrives these days, I think that's totally out of date.I could go on but I think you get the point. The little animated guitar neck is nice and how they highlight the words and cords as the songs or lessons plays but that's about the only good things I can say about it.Peace

Surprisingly Good Product

Have a lot of other books and software and this is by far the best one. Lessons clear, pacing excellent, each lessons builds on earlier ones and you can play it over and over until you get it right. Actually thought I knew how to play and bought the eMedia Intermediate and Blues first but bought this one as liked the others. This definitely strenghten my understanding and basic skills and unless you've had some expensive lessons you'll be surprised what you don't know. Suggest you buy this and the rest of suite. You won't be dissappointed and you will stop wasting your money on lot of other junk that's out there.

The price is a little high, but it is cheaper than lessons. Not as good as a good teacher though.

If you have a PC and are just learning at home get this program it works!!!!! I live in very rural area where music teachers are on the endangered species list, so this program is the next best thing I have been playing for one year and my friends and family cannot believe how much I have learned in such a short period of time.

This product is great. I've played bass for over 10 years, and thought I'd get a cheap guitar, get this program, and learn to play the 6 string. Tell you what, I'm a better guitar player than a bass player now (maybe not). If you've got a PC, don't waste your time and money on private lessons. This software will have you playing in no time. I recommend getting the next volume, once you've completed volume 1.

This is a great way to learn. Combination of text, video and tools keeps you engaged. Very flexible format - you can jump around to reference different lessons, or just go to the index of songs and play along, or pull up the chord dictionary to practice. The song selection can be improved upon. I would recommend this to anyone starting out.

Awesome System!

This CD-Rom contains some awesome guitar lessons. You start out playing chords to actual song and it's VERY easy to use. There is even a rock chapter (which i can't wait to get to!). It takes you through so many chords, songs and techniques in the beginning. Towards the end you have an amazing grasp on chords and the CD teaches you musical theory, notation and tabluture. There are some songs, where you learn the chords and in the end play the melodies. The program even has a metronome, tuner, recorder and a chord directory.Basically a great beginning guitar system!

Best guitar lesson I've ever had.

By MM79

from APO, AE

Since I was young I've attempted to play guitar a number of times. Every teacher i had either wasn't a good teacher or wouldn't follow me home and look over my shoulder and tell me what i was doing wrong in the 2 weeks between lessons. now that i'm much older i've decided to give learning guitar another try. I haven't played in 10 years so its like starting over. In just one week with GUITAR METHOD I've learned more than I would have in 6 months. This product is great and I would highly recommend.

quicktime conflict time

By predicator

from Iowa

See all my reviews

If you have iTunes then this software will conflict with it as iTunes uses newer quicktime application and eMedia won't use a newer version. You have to uninstall any newer version of quicktime to use the guitar program and of course iTunes won't work without using the newest version of quicktime. So, if you use iTunes and want to use this software to learn guitar you'll have to be willing to stop using iTunes.

Great Beginner's Software Instruction

By OG-qxD8d

See all my reviews

I just decided to learn to play guitar on a whim and I wanted a little baseline of skill and knowledge before I go looking for a real, live instructor. This program more than meets my needs! Amazingly well thought out and jam-packed with cool features. The built-in tuner, metronome and chord dictionary are great. The lessons themselves are progressive, from extremely elementary to relaively complex. All in all, tremendously well planned. Instruction is song-based, so you'll be playing tunes in no time. AND, it works perfectly on both of my Macs (OS X) - one being an old G3 laptop. I would highly recommend this to anyone learning on their own or looking to supplement personal formal instruction.

I had purchased 2 other beginner guitar software packages, but neither could compare with eMedia software. The layout and features are powerful and the added chord dictionary and tuner are added bonuses!

Outstanding for Beginners

By Chrisbeard

from Boston, MA

I bought the eMedia Guitar Method Volume 1 half-expecting it to be another failed attempt to wrap my fingers around the neck of a guitar. It has, however, in a few short months, taught me many basic chords and strumming techniques. I can actually make music on the guitar. I've played sax and harmonica for years, but could never manage the guitar. Now I can, with what I've learned from this program. The end-of-lesson suggestions for songs on OLGA.net is brilliant. Go ahead and buy, with a little dedication and practice, you'll learn!

Awesome for anyone wanting to learn at home!

By Monkey Finger

from Chico, CA

I was a frustrated beginner until I purchased this. With this CD, I have made more progress in 2 days than I had in a month of lessons! I'm not knocking professional lessons, because there are things that can be learned only from another human being. I think this CD is a great, inexpensive way to get your playing jump-started at home. It's easy to follow, the demos are clear and easy to understand, the lessons make sense, and I find the 'looping play feature' on the lessons particularly useful as a practice tool. Overall, a really great product!

Pretty good, price could be a little less

It's a good product, however, there needs to be more songs that are enjoying to play, personally I thought some of the songs are boring, but it is a great product if you like the songs, you will learn them in no time. All the songs that I liked I learned and mastered. In addition, I highly recommend it if you want to learn all the basics, such as, reading notes and tablature.

Wish this had been my first purchase

By Scott has sore fingers (I love it)

Buy it. Buy it. Buy it. I have made more progress in 2 weeks than I did in 3 months with books. And, 2 or 3 books will cost you as much. The program starts with easy chords, strumming patterns and simple songs. Then you progress to harder chords, rhythms and more complex songs. You actually play your guitar instead of practicing music notation as in books. You are well past lesson 100 before this program challenges you with music notation practice. Each new lesson consists of a video showing you proper chord position, a sound file so you can hear how it should sound, and a play along that can be set to any tempo you desire. The program allows you to replay any lesson, over and over. It?s like having your own personal instructor who is available any time. I wish Emedia Guitar had been my first purchase.
