OVERVIEW

Tablature and notation are a breeze with Guitar Pro.

Guitar Pro 5.0 from eMedia is a complete multitrack tablature workshop for guitar, banjo, and bass. It boasts powerful and intuitive editing, advanced notation, drum notation, vocal notation, and tablature support for any stringed instruments with four to seven strings! It gives you the power to create complete scores for a band in minutes and for creating lead sheets, scores, or lesson sheets for your students. Realtime playback of your scores features realistic sound samples taken from high quality guitars and effects. It also provides tools for guitarists to sharpen their skills. Upgraded features for 5.0 include the Real Sound Engine playback, improved ASCII import and export, an improved speed trainer, and new effects.

With its creative tools and flexible workflow, Guitar Pro makes tablature easier than ever. You can enter notes by keyboard, mouse, or MIDI for up to 256 tracks. Guitar Pro supports from 4- to 7-string instruments, percussion, and non-guitar tracks. It has a complete set of scales for use in practice or composition; audio playback of tabs and scores; a tuner; a metronome; on-demand chord diagrams; a speed trainer; a guitar fretboard for viewing and entering notes; and MIDI and ASCII import/export.

The most important tools and features are instantly accessible thanks to Guitar Pro's toolbars. You can also adjust the display to your preferences with options for multitrack/monotrack and horizontal or vertical scrolling.

While Guitar Pro is designed for tablature, you can switch to standard notation. This makes it easy to view and edit scores, with changes you make in notation automatically duplicated in tab. As you enter the note and duration, Guitar Pro calculates the rhythmics for you.

You have access to numerous symbols for scoring and lots of guitar-specific symbols like left- and right-hand fingering, ghost note, harmonics, tapping, slapping, hammer on, pull off, bend, tremolo bar, slides, vibrato, palm mute, and more.

You can print your tabs monotrack or multitrack and all fonts and elements of the print are customizable.

Good but not worth it ...

Download a free copy of Power Tab software and be done with it. It's about the same, they've managed to make it sound a little better when it plays it back, but it's not worth spending this much money on the small differences. At least TRY Power Tab first ... you'll be glad. However, I found it pretty straight forward and fairly easy to use, but it can get pretty confusing if you're new at it. It'll let you know if you're tempo/timing is off (nice), the good stuff doesn't justify the amount of money you'll spend on it when you can download a free copy of something VERY similar.
