Comments about Hal Leonard Masterworks for Guitar Great Classical Music Tab & Notation:

I'm not a classically trained musician although I played in the school orchestra for several years through grade school. The songs in the book are decent. There are some very recognizable songs even a novice as myself knew as soon as I started playing them. Canon in D, Jesu, A Joy Of Man's Desiring etc. It is a very good book for rhythem. I immediately saw my weaknesses in fingerstyle picking so it has helped there. It lacks a depth of songs with dark moods or with agressive licks thrown in, but there are a few tunes that are extremely challenging in all aspects. I would recommend this book for the novice as there is still plently of material to work on.

Accurate with a Great Selection

Comments about Hal Leonard Masterworks for Guitar Great Classical Music Tab & Notation:

There isn't a ton of tablature out there for classical players (I am not one in the truest sense, myself; I strive for accuracy, and am good with what I know, but am a hybrid picker and have zero theoretical background, nor can I read music notation). What is available on the 'net is oftentimes inaccurately transcribed, and/or incomplete.

This is a terrific selection and it's accurate! Matches right up with my Segovia and Williams recordings. I'm most pleased so far with the Bach selections, which was my primary interest in getting this (the entire Cello Suite 1 and Lute Suite 1, Sleepers Awake, Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring and others) as well as Milan's Pavans, selections from Sor, Torrega, Albeniz, et.al. Awesome!

Best Classical Guitar Book in the Musician's Friend Classic Guitar Collection

Comments about Hal Leonard Masterworks for Guitar Great Classical Music Tab & Notation:

Even if you are deciding between books from other stores, this class guitar book would still be a must have!!!
If you want to play REAL clasical guitar pieces and not the same old simple classical guitar songs you see everywhere (greensleeves, ode to joy, christmas songs, etc...) then get this book. This is the best book you'll get out of the small collection of classical guitar tab books that you'll find here.
Ever wanted to play the Bach cello pieces? An entire suite is included in this book! Ever heard Christopher Parkening play Slvius Leopold Weiss' Passacaglia? Full transcription included. And songs that are easy but will dazzle your friends because they sound so difficult such as Guardame las Vacas and several pieces by Gaspar Sanz! Bach's Praladium from the Well Tempered Cavalier! *becareful with this piece, it's the version that includes a LOT of bar chords and you could easily injure your hand if you are not warmed up!
And also a well known piece by Alonso Mudurra that is awesome! All of the songs are concert worthy, even the easy ones.
This is one of the best books I've ever had in my collection. There's also Scarlatti, Taregga's famous Recuerdos de la Alhambra along with Albeniz's Asturias/Leyenda! What's really cool is the renditions of Bach's Sleeper's Awake and Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata.
If you have to get one Classical Guitar book from Musician's Friend and want to play some REAL classical guitar to impress your friends or serenade your girlfriend, or to simply play by yourseld next to the fire on a cold winter's night, this book is it!
