Comments about Hal Leonard Pentatonic Scales for Guitar (Book/Online Audio):

I've been playing guitar off and on for a long while, but mostly just strumming on the acoustic. I got to the point where I really wanted to work on electric lead. This book is good for getting a basic understanding on how the pentatonic scale works and how it plays out over the guitar. The exercises were great, but for beginners like me the actual lead licks he had you work through were not practical at all. Seemed like he was showing off and not giving something for us to really work on to get an understanding on how it all works. Everything was so fast and my finger speed just coundn't make it sound right...yet at any rate. This product would be much better with a DVD so you can see what he is talking about and more dumb downed leads so we can work through the scales with more confidence.

Comments about Hal Leonard Pentatonic Scales for Guitar (Book/Online Audio):

This book was great for helping you learn the boxes of the scale, but just terrible in how to apply it to music. The exercises were not a way to teach you but seemed a way to show off the author's tallent.

Comments about Hal Leonard Pentatonic Scales for Guitar (Book/Online Audio):

I have played for several years now. Self taught and play by ear. Reaching a sticking point , I have realized that in order to reach the next level , I needed to really start learning and memorizing scales. Since I started playing blues ( teaching myself ) I play a lot of pentatonics. This book and CD has helped bring further understanding and clarity to my playing. Especially when jamming or improvising. Instead of just monkey see , monkey do. Worth checking out.
