I have found this DVD to be a very cheap production and the camera is out of focus and the charts are hand written looks like a third grader! I do not recommend this. I was hoping to learn blues and he has corny county songs only.
This DVD is a very good intro to lap steel for the beginner. It provides a terse description of TABulature and has a number of single, double and triple string familiar country standards along with some hot examples of what one can do with advanced techniques. The biggest drawback is the video quality, duped from a bad VHS I suspect. This is not up to DVD standards and the on screen TAB is barely readable. The good news George Goode does call out the TAB slowly to walk you through the song slowly and plays the song before and after up to speed. Bad news, note timing is not on the TAB, but one gets that by playing along, although at speed. The sound is acceptable. I will write out the tab and timing for practice and play along with George at speed after practice.
Poor, if any, technique instructions. Poor videography. Boring. Cheesy and not professionally made.
Okay. Aside from the Kitsch value of this fella sittin under a mullet in his living room, this DVD is a waste of time. The lessons go quickly between painfully slow TAB based renditions, and then to a dextrous, advanced version. There is only casual mention of important terms and techniques. Do not buy this DVD if you can help it. I've progressed way quicker just experimenting along with records.
