Advanced Beginner to Intermediate... Beginners not so much!

By Timothy Gatehouse

Comments about Waltons Learn to Play the Irish Tin Whistle (DVD):

I went into this video thinking it would be more instructional for the total beginner, but was surprised to find that the instruction went from "this is a tin whistle" description to "here are several fairly difficult tunes and Vinnie playing them at full speed". I'd recommend this video only to players who have at least a working knowledge of cuts, gracenotes, and rolls -advanced beginners at least- not to mention someone who is a quick study on memorizing notes!
Video and sound quality are at least on par and a bit better than most instructional videos I've seen from this genre of music.
Vinnie introduces tunes fairly quickly, so there's a lot of re-winding (so to speak) to be done. Sheet music would have been helpful.
