OVERVIEW

The highly anticipated live concert footage!

This double-DVD set includes over 5 hours of never-before-available concert and performance footage from Led Zeppelin, spanning the years 1969 to 1979. While enthusiasts have been trading poor quality versions of this material for years, this marks the first official archival video release to contain any footage of the band playing live.

The first disc includes highlights of the band's legendary set at the Royal Albert Hall on January 9th, 1970. If there was ever any doubt as to the power and legerdemain of Jimmy Page (guitar), Robert Plant (vocal/harmonica), John Paul Jones (bass/keyboards/mandolin), and John Bonham (drums), this performance will silence all detractors. The dozen songs from this show are derived primarily from the band's first 2 LPs, with a few well-chosen covers thrown in for good measure. One particularly interesting inclusion is Plant's spontaneous incorporation of a few lines from Neil Young's "Down by the River" and "On the Way Home" during an epic "How Many More Times."

Supplementary shorts on disc one feature a promotional video for "Communication Breakdown" (with the band miming to a prerecorded audio track), a half-hour mini-show for Danish Television, a clip of "Dazed and Confused" from the British TV program "Supershow," as well as a pair of tunes ("Communication Breakdown" and "Dazed and Confused") for the French TV show "Tous En Scene."

The second DVD fast forwards to the '70s and continues with a trio of main attractions and a slew of extras. First up is a composite video for "Immigrant Song," which contains some amateur footage married to a previously unissued live version of the song. This is followed by outtakes from the motion picture "The Song Remains the Same" (1976), which finds the quartet at Madison Square Garden in 1973. The oft-bootlegged 1975 Earl's Court concert is up next, highlighted by acoustic renderings of "Going to California" and "That's the Way." The last extended set finds Zep during their triumphant return to England in 1979. It would ultimately be a bittersweet affair, as it was likewise their final performance in their homeland prior to the death of Bonham the following year.

Extras on disc 2 include interview clips, promotional videos for "Over the Hills and Far Away" as well as "Traveling Riverside Blues" -- both circa the (1990) Led Zeppelin 4-CD box set.

  • 5 hours of unreleased concert footage

Here is my rundown. Features 8: Pretty good stuff, Jimmy Page isn't just one of the better mainstream rock players, after watching this I believe he is as legitimate as anyone I have ever seen. White Summer is absolutely AMAZING! The song alone is worth the DVD. The only thing is the DVD is missing some of my favorite songs, and that is why I give it 8.Quality 9: It is great for when it was shot.Value 9: If you play guitar (or attempt to) watching Page and taking some of what he does is definitely worthwhile.Overall 8: Maybe I am not the greatest Zep fan, but a few of the songs were not enjoyable to listen to, but other than that. This is a good DVD, and much better (I feel) than "The Who's" DVD. Jimmy Page is great, and Robert Plant is pretty good in it, too.

It is rad, like really rad.

It is cool, there is a rad 26 minute drum solo and stuff, it is pretty long but, you gotta watch the whole thing and stuff.

The Next Best Thing

By Gibson Double Neck 58

I saw Zep live in Greensboro, NC in 1978 and if you were fortunate enough to see them live around the same time, you might be disappointed that the incredible light show they presented isn't as effective in the DVD. BUT this is definitely the next best thing. unbelievable sound quality in digital surround, a true display of the band's ability to change directions like a cheetah without even a signal to each other. if you ain't got it, get it. this is the genuine "greatest show on earth". Zep is missed, but they never missed a beat. rock on guys, thanks for everything.

Captures Zeppelin At Its Finest

By CAB-Ywd4r

from Midland, TX

I purchased this DVD by the reccomendation of a music store employee. I was not disappointed at all. This DVD is so amazing. All the preformances are great, and watching Jimmy Page unleash his epic solos, Bonzo and John Paul Jones hammering out the rythm, and Robert Plant wailing away is quite enjoyable. I wish there were a wider variety of songs on the extras for Disc 1 (several renditions of Dazed and Confused and Communication Breakdown), but that is one of the few faults in Led Zeppelin DVD. I watch this all the time now, and I will highly reccomend it to any Zep fans.

SImply Amazing

I love Zeppelin with a passion. And this DVD as increased my love for them. People don't understand how extremely musically talented Zeppelin was. But when you actually watch them perform, any doubts are diminished. I enjoy the first disc the most, because early Zeppelin is my favorite. Their presence is so owverwhelming, that you can't express it. I am so pissed that I was born in 1988 because I missed some amazing stuff. There is nothing about this DVD that I didn't enjoy. Preety much all of the songs played on it are better than the original recordings.

Tribute to Zeppelin

By JEKlink13

from Senecaville, OH

Led Zeppelin is the most incredibly amazing rock band in the history of human existance. No other band can even come close to having that level of influence again, and this DVD is a fitting tribute to the amazing quartet. Even the most soulless of individuals will feel a shiver go down their spine as the band rips into their trademark tunes, and even the most hardened of rockers may find themselves with a tear running down their cheek as they witness some of the more soulful selections on this incredibly powerful video compilation. I recommend this DVD for all those who understand, or wish to understand, the true meaning of what it is to rock.
