I bought this horn for my son who is an orchestral performance major to augment his tool box. He already owned a Kanstal Ed/D which has it's own flexibility. He saw this at an ITG show and went back & forth between it & the Shilke 4-valve. This is a top-shelf horn hand made in Germany in a shop with 2nd & 3rd generation craftsman, as the price reflects. The tone is incredible & the workmanship as good as I've ever seen. Even the plating is stunning. No corners cut making this horn. Beyond that, the 4th valve gives the range & flexibility as expected, as well as the added mass. Intonation is exceptional & it plays like butter. If there is a down side, though more like a trade-off, it would be the added mass means also a heavier horn - which hasn't been a problem, and you have to watch how you hold it since the little finger can't be 2 places at once - it's either on the ring to hold the horn or on the 4th valve, so it can take some getting used to holding it. He also has a B&S flugal which has a true fugal sound, and a B&S pic which rivals the Shilke. I can't recommend it highly enough, but it does have a pretty steep price tag. At least you are getting what you're paying for. Comes with a large 3 horn case with compartment for music, 2 bells, conversion pieces in a nice pouch, & accessories - case alone is worth hundreds.
