The Challenger models are a result of combining the latest technology with the oldest of traditions. Superb intonation combined with a rich sound and great projection in the upper register will allow a player to create that classical piccolo sound. It is thanks to the many musicians who supported the development of the Challenger series that has made it a true force in the world market.

Comments about B&S 3131 Challenger II Series Bb / A Piccolo Trumpet:

Opions will vary. Most would agree that the Shilke is the benchmark top, with Kanstul coming in VERY close at $1k less. That being said, the B&S may well be the best instrument available (excluding rotary valves). That's a big order to fill, but the craftsmanship, engineering, playablity, intonation & tone seems as perfect as possible. Shilke is comparible in tone, but has more intonation issues. Also, the finish is stunning. German craftsmanship at it's finest. The only drawback is the price ...the Germans know how to charge for their workmanship (as in Mercedes & BMW), but at least you get what you pay for. If you can afford it, go for it ...after all, it's returnable. PS Nice large bore and easy blowing. In my humble opinion, you will not find a finer instrument at any price.
