Comments about Conn Helleberg Series Tuba Mouthpiece in Silver:
The mouthpiece is standard. You won't get anything special out of it, but for most playing if you're not a professional you don't need anything special. This is an affordable mouthpiece that allows you to get a good tone, what more do you need?
Well, what can I say? It's a standard mouthpiece, it's the one all the non-pros seem to have. It works. It's a little bit shallower than the ones I had been used to playing on, so I'm struggling to get the deep, dark sound I normally get out of the tuba. But I think that will just come back to me as I play on it more. It feels good on my lips, and allows for a great range and volume. If you're not sure what to get, this is the standard that doesn't specialize in anything and would be a good first mouthpiece to buy.
The quality of the mouthpiece itself is very good. It feels like it's made well and so far hasn't dented or scratched. The point where the leadpipe ends and the mouthpiece begins did get discolored/scratched fairly quickly, but it's a minor issue that I don't think detracts from it. Useful or not, the quality is great.
For the price, it's great. It's an affordable investment that you can get a lot of use out of. Because it's not such a major buy you can risk a bit to see if it's what you want.
