Comments about Getzen 3916 Custom Series Bb/A Piccolo Trumpet:
The Getzen 3916 Piccolo trumpet is really an amazing instrument for the money. It has a pleasing tone without any hint of the nasal quality that I so dislike about some piccs. The copper bell no doubt contributes to the warm, smooth sound of this Getzen and is a great feature. I also own an excellent Yamaha picc which was far more expensive but no easier to play. The Getzen 3916 plays well compared to others I've owned and intonation isn't bad for a picc. Like most piccs, the 3916 requires the use of alternate fingerings, careful slide adjustments and considerable time spent with a tuner. Intonationon is a little easier to control than the older, short model Getzen 940 picc. As with all pro model Getzens, the valves are wonderful. I replaced the standard heavy valve bottom caps (on a picc?) with the much lighter Getzen Capri caps and find the horn to be more responsive. It might not be a bad idea to replace the top caps and buttons as well. I got the lacquer finish because the silver version sounded a little too bright. One minor squawk- I found excess solder in the 3rd valve slide which was easily removed by my repair tech. The horn comes in a sturdy case and includes a German made, Getzen 1C trumpet mouthpiece. This mouthpiece is a very odd choice to be included with a picc. FYA I use a Schilke 11A and a 40 year old Bach 7EW with this and my Yamaha picc. The Getzen 3916 is a quality instrument and one made right here in the USA.
