Comments about Humes & Berg 172 Bass Trombone Bucket Mute:
Makes exactly the sound you may recognise from George Roberts recordings.
A bit awkward to put on, so a mute to use for a whole song rather than a few bars.
The stuff that looks like surgical gauze and contains the (I think) cotton wool looks quite delicate. Shop around - in the UK at least, the price varies quite a bit.
Mild confusion on purchase as packaging and label on mute implied different bell sizes. Label on mute was correct, as you'd hope.
