The Meinl Weston 2141 Eb tuba is an amazing instrument. At a 5/4 size with the large valve set this horn can produce a very strong sound in all registers. The 17.25" bell adds a lot of resonance as well. Add to this the 5 valve features and you have an unbeatable combination.

Comments about Meinl Weston 2141L Series 5-Valve 5/4 Eb Tuba:
Superb quality sound, sturdy, good workmanship, great valves, great intonation..
Has big sound, easy low range, below range of standard piano. Good control in high range. Large stainless valves like all Meinl-Weston, VMI piston valves. Rotary 5th valve is a "flat" first valve, which does well for intonation with the fourth valve. The only drawback I have found is that the main tuning slide is somewhat short. Sometimes it comes close to being at full extension if tuning to a relatively flat piano, etc. It has 8 slides, a main tuning slide, 1 slide each for the first, second, and fifth valves, 2 slides each for the third and fourth valves. Three water keys mean you don't have to wiggle nor spin the horn around to get the water out of it. The only reason I didn't rate it as a 10 is that it has no bell ring ("wreath"), so you have to be careful at high volume.
Well-made, sturdy, good weight. Excellent stainless piston valves move smoothly and silently. Sound is dark enough to be able to be used for serious symphonic work, but not too heavy for solo or small ensemble work. The valve slides fit beautifully, and are easy to reach and manipulate on the fly for good intonation. The nickel plating makes them slide smoothly and effortlessly. Intonation is quite good without having to strain in the extreme high and low ranges. I have had my 2141L for several years, and the lacquer is as good as new, except for where my sweatty right arm has rubbed on the lower part of the bell throat.
Excellent price for a great tuba. But then, it IS a Meinl-Weston. No more need be said.
