The Protec PB-301VAX trumpet combo case is the result of a yearlong design collaboration with the famed jazz trumpeter, Mike Vax. After spending years on the road as a performer, Mike has learned first hand what features a professional musician needs and appreciates. With a compact exterior dimension of 22" x 12-1/2" x 9" inches, this trumpet case will comply with most airline regulations. The exterior pocket design holds sheet music and allows for secure attachment of the Protec M-400 Mute Bag (sold separately). Interior layout fits many musical instruments. One section of the case fits a Bb trumpet or C trumpet, and the second section of the case fits a flugelhorn, cornet, and a Eb/D trumpet or piccolo trumpet.

Took this case on deployment to Afghanistan, Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar. Protected it very well especially fastening it on a pallet to travel on several aircraft and helicopters. It kept the sand and grime out of the case in the 120+ degree temperatures. With that being said, when I returned stateside one of the small pieces of metal fell out of the hinge. I contacted the manufacturer and they sent a replacement. That one fell out, too. Also, the handles on the zippers that you use to open and close the case all came apart on me. I even switched to the other case that we had (we bought 2) and they came off, too. It makes it very hard to open and close it. That particular feature needs to be re-engineered. When you pull the zipper, there is a small opening where the piece was attached and with enough pressure and use, it will eventually open the gap and the piece will pull apart. Sorry for the description, it was very hard to describe. Hope this helps!

I average about 8 gigs a month and got tired of lugging around two case, so after much research, I ended up with the Mike Vax Pro Tec case. The case is quite fantastic. I had initially wanted a hardshell case (like a Walt Johnson), but budget constraints restricted me to the more affordable pro tec line. I was pleasantly surprised to see that this case is much harder shelled than my 10 year old Protec single. I fit a Bb trumpet, flugelhorn quite snugly, but still managed to fit a wrapped harmon in with the flugelhorn. The two wedge foam pieces are removable and relocatable to best suit your needs. Combined with a pro tec accessory pouch (which fits snugly in a corner, I can fit four additional mouthpieces, valve oil, chop saver, and a lead pipe swab in the case. It's hard to believe this case is no bigger than my old pro tec single. The wheels and pullout handle are a very welcome addition. The only downside is that you really must choose between using the wheels, or attaching the shoulder strap, otherwise the strap will get caught under the wheels.

Good quality and manufacturing only a couple of issues to date. Just returned from a trip overseas and the biggest issue is that if you pack your music book (mine was a 1 inch notebook) in the front pocket the case will tend to fall forward when vertical. Smaller issue, the case was slightly too large to fit in the bin on a smaller jet and had to be gate checked on 2 short flights but fits on large planes just fine. Plenty of room and good protection for instruments.

This is the best idea to come along in years. No more carrying that heavy gig bag to gigs. This case is great. With the addition of the mute bag, I have everything I need to go to a gig. Both of my horns are well protected, including my larger tham most Vintage One Flugel. Thank you Mike Vax for this great case....

Case turned out to be too small.A 6.5in bell flugelhorn (which may be partlythe problem) and trumpet, was too much for thiscase. The movable pad - good idea, but allowedthe valve casings to touch.
