A great system improved.

The Silent Brass system lets you play your horn anywhere you want, anytime you want, with just the kind of ambience you want. You can mix in the sounds of a CD player, a Silent Piano, an electronic keyboard or another instrument using the Silent Brass System, and output your playing to a recorder or even an amp with speakers. Never again will you have to search for a practice room or have to stop because it's getting late. The system includes the Silent Brass module, pickup mute, locking cable, belt-loop/strap, button earphones, and 9V battery. The Personal Studio module has been redesigned. It is sleeker, smaller, the sound quality has been improved, noise reduced, and the controls simplified.

Features

  • Aux in to play along with CDs or MP3s
  • Echo-enhanced sound for large-room ambience
  • Reduced hiss
  • Simplified controls and sleeker look

Order this remarkable system today and give yourself a larger practice time window.

A very nice system for your horn

Comments about Yamaha SB79C Silent Brass System for Trumpet:

Overall, I really like this product. although the name is misleading and it does not make your playing silent to the rest of the world (It has a sound somewhere in between a straight mute and a cup mute), it does reduce the volume to a point where you could play later in the evening in an apartment withought getting a noise complaint. This setup would also create an easy mic-ing situation for larger concert venues where you might need a boost to be heard over a guitar amp or for a wireless setup for solo performances. if you get really experimental, you could probably run this through an effect processor and give your trumpet some distortion or whatever you're feeling. I am very glad I made this investment.
This package comes with a microphone/mute for the trumpet/cornet (although i think it could probably fit a flugel horn too, i haven't tried it though), yamaha silent brass personal studio, headphones, cable to connect from the mute to the personal studio, and cable to connect to the aux in or run into a speaker system (this has a 1/8th input, so you'd need an adapter or a different cable for connecting to something that needs a 1/4th input like a guitar amp), 9v battery, and a belt clip. the silent brass personal studio features a volume dial, input selector (low and high), power switch with echo (which sounds more like room reverb), microphone input, aux in input, and an output/headphone. overall it's very simple to use right out of the box.
the studio and mic seem to be made very sturdy. it's obviously plastic so it probably won't survive a fall down a flight of stairs or hitting concrete. the cable connecting the mic to the studio actually screws on to the mic in a similar fashion for how you would connect a cable to your tv.
