Comments about Yamaha YHR-667 Geyer Series Fixed Bell Double French Horn:

The french horn came in a box, protecting the casing.
Horn itself is wrapped up. Mint condition.
Comes with rotary valve oil and slide grease.
Flawless workmanship - probably machine made, but still, flawless.
Sounds great - dark, rich tone. Makes a novice like me sound good.
      Valves, levers very very responsive.
I was deliberating between the Yamaha 667 and the Holten 179. I am glad I made the final decision of buying the 667. It costs a little more, but the 667 feels and plays alot better than the 179.
It is a matter of personal preference, but I prefer the yellow brass to the nickel silver of the H179. The 667 thumb trigger/ leverl mechanism is well made, and the lever moves with great ease.
When I first opened the box and held the horn, I just sat there, admiring it, and couldn't stop smiling. It did cost me an arm, but it is well worth it. Now onto some serious practising!!

      I love my 667!

Comments about Yamaha YHR-667 Geyer Series Fixed Bell Double French Horn:

I dabbled into going into music, but it wasn't for me. Used this horn last year of high school and throughout college and play for fun now. It replaced an 8D, which I loved too, but intonation was a problem on the 8D and I felt that this was a good "poor man's Rauch" horn. It can't project as well as my old 8D, but I had the bell cut and added a Lawson bell and it now holds tight at high volumes. Intonation is awesome and the notes lock in much easier than most Kruspe wrap horns I've used. Ditch the yamaha oil and only use Hetman light rotor oil and it will last a lifetime. Also, the lacquer is very thin as most yamahas are, so be careful. I love my 667!
