You've reached the apex when you
choose the Xeno!

The Yamaha YTR-8335RGS Xeno Series Bb Trumpet has a reputation for excellence at an exceptional value. This instrument allows satin-smooth playing and is highly responsive to the musician. A substantial, heavyweight instrument, the Xeno Series Bb Trumpet offers a dark, rich, controlled tone. The Yamaha name is known for its attention to detail. This kind of care is found in components of this trumpet such as the hand-hammered bell and the drawn mouthpiece both formed out of one piece of metal. It also offers features typically only found on more expensive instruments like 2-piece valve casings, a first valve slide thumb hook, and double main tuning slide braces. The trumpet possesses a 4-7/8” bell, a .459 bore, and a newly upgraded mouthpiece receiver length for improved response. Additionally, the hand-lapped pistons and slides on the instrument are made from the durable Monel alloy which heavily cuts down on maintenance. All of Yamaha’s flagship professional trumpets are heavyweight instruments designed to give a powerful, controlled, rich sound. Pressure-formed tubing gives perfect roundness for a smooth air flow and a precise tone. The ample bore produces low resistance allowing for free blowing. The Yamaha YTR-8335RGS Xeno Series Bb Trumpet’s elegant, dark tone will not break with volume and has become a trusted choice among professional concert musicians, jazz trumpet players, and among premiere symphonies. The Yamaha YTR-8335RGS Xeno Series Bb Trumpet comes with a sturdy case and a limited 5 year warranty.

Just purchased my new Xeno and love it. Tried all makes and models and decided the sound and ease of playing made this an easy choice. Great for high register playing and band work.

Comments about Yamaha YTR-8335RGS Xeno Series Bb Trumpet:

Our marching band has won 3 state championships in a row! As you can imagine this trumpet is common in our band. I've played mine for over a year and love it! It has a great warm sound which complements the quality put into this horn. This is a great buy for a student ready for an upgrade.

5 Years of Amazing Playing

By sub.freq

Comments about Yamaha YTR-8335RGS Xeno Series Bb Trumpet:

I have been playing for about 8 years and this is the best horn I have ever played on. It gets alot of critism that it has too dark of a sound and that it is harder to reach high notes, and it my very well be true. It was created to have a darker, richer sound. Also the Mouthpiece that comes with it is the best I have ever played on. In comparison, it is about a 1c on the Bach scale. This may alos be where some say it is harder to reach higher notes. The larger the cup, nomally the harder you have to try. Also, it will automatically increase your lung compacity. It does take a little more air, but that keeps you from getting a horible tone quality. I played it for concert band, marching and college invitationals for 4 years. With the right mix of lung compacity and Tone control, this horn can bury a marching band with a dark sound. Believe me I did it for a 250+ size high school marching band. I do not advize doing this because I am against the idea of a schilke mouthpiece, but if you are wanting to create a brighter sound and counter set the drak sound, use a schilke with this trumpet, and you won't be disappointed.Overall It is an amazing Trumpet! I would pick it over a new modeled Strat any day!

Its Okay...

Comments about Yamaha YTR-8335RGS Xeno Series Bb Trumpet:

I tried this horn out at around the same time I was purchasing my current horn, the Bach Strad 37.The horn has a very large bore which yields a nice warm sound, however larger bores require much more air. It was harder to play high (since I am a jazz player, it is important.) The valves were also nowhere near as smooth as the 37's. The tone was also not as bright. If you are going for a warm classical tone, this horn is good. But In that case I would also recommend a Model 72 Stradivarius. But you can't go wrong with a 37 :-)And a note, every professional horn is made different(the same models). The horn chooses the player, so keep your options open.

'Tis an awesome horn

Comments about Yamaha YTR-8335RGS Xeno Series Bb Trumpet:

A friend of mine bought this horn after marching season and has let me play it before. I must say that without a doubt it is one of the best horns out there. Each partial "slots" beautifully and has an excellent response even into the pedal register. The intonation with this horn is excellent. On my horn, the top G partial is extremely sharp, but on this Xeno, dead in tune. If Allen Vizzutti uses these horns, then they obviously are worth the money.I currently play on a YTR2335 and know these horns well. An excellent buy in my book.

One of the best trumpets out there!

Comments about Yamaha YTR-8335RGS Xeno Series Bb Trumpet:

I have owned this horn for almost a year. I LOVE it! It is very versatile. I can use it in slow, quiet symphonic pieces, to big, loued Jazz pieces.I also play it in a Ska band! It has a 'free-blowing' feel thanks to the reversed leadpipe design. Great repsonse, and a very rich, dark sound, and excellent intonation. Once I get it in tune, it stays in tune. The quality of the horn is great. The finish is beautiful and the valves are supper fast. The 1st and 3rd finger rngs are perfect for my big hands. The only thing I do not like about the horn is the metal valve guides. The make a faint clink everytime you press the valves. But, this doesn't hinder the playability at all.I find this horn better than most other horns in the price range. Especially the Bach Strad's. I feel theat the Xeno has more personality and a richer sound than a Strad.

An Absolutely Unbeatable Horn!

By YJTD

from UT

Comments about Yamaha YTR-8335RGS Xeno Series Bb Trumpet:

One thing that can be said for Yamaha: they are consistent. I've never picked up any Yamaha trumpet that I couldn't play comfortably on a gig. In fact, I've never heard about any Yamaha product that wasn't considered excellent, quite remarkable from a company that makes everything from motorcycles (I've got one of them, too) to grand pianos (I wish). Choosing between two different Yamaha models is always difficult, discerning a difference between samples of the same model is often impossible. Some years back, Yamaha introduced the 6335H, a heavyweight trumpet designed to take on the standard-bearer Bach. I tried one of the first models in Canada, and loved it. That became my primary horn for many years.Eventually Yamaha released the second generation 6335H, the Mark II, with subtle refinements to the original design. Now, with the debut of the Xeno (pronounced Zeno), Yamaha has refined this design further. Changes include: * A new mouthpiece receiver * Thicker braces between valve casings * New valve stems, buttons and caps * Changed brace placement and bell material processing While these changes may not sound particularly dramatic, the end result is a quite different, and substantially improved horn. Yamaha has always been at the forefront of brass instrument design and manufacturing. They listen to the players, and incorporate their feedback into the designs. The results are obvious with the Xeno: the core to the sound is bigger, the response is quicker, and the notes slot like pool balls dropping into the corner pocket, especially on the reverse-leadpipe version. While there is no mistaking it for anything but a Yamaha, that is to say it exudes more precision than personality, the Xeno breathes life into the sound. The heavyweight construction gives body to the notes and holds the tone together at loud volumes, yet it responds instantly to a mere puff of breath, thus it is excellent at both dynamic extremes. Valves and slides are silky smooth. It comes in Yamaha's lovely compact double trumpet case. For 2001 the 8300 series Xeno replaces the 6300H series heavyweight trumpets. The new model number provides welcome differentiation from the regular weight 6335/45, which are still available. The Xeno is available in .459" (8335) and .462" (8345) bore sizes, in gold or yellow brass, and in lacquer or silver finish. The special reverse leadpipe model (8335RGS) comes with a .459" bore, gold brass and silver plating. This model also has a 1st valve finger ring rather than a hook, a heavier mouthpiece receiver and inexplicably, no 3rd valve water key. This drives me batty and would entail a quick trip to the shop to have one put on. A .459" bore C trumpet is also available. I have no doubt that the Xeno will be very popular. It does everything well and represents the finest that Yamaha has to offer.
