OVERVIEW

Lifts your arm clear off the top of the guitar, giving you all the sound your guitar has to give.

Gives your arm a more comfortable contour and also helps to protect the top of the guitar from perspiration. Most importantly, it allows you to play normally while it lifts your arm clear off the top of the guitar, giving you all the sound your guitar has to give.

The outer edge of the John Pearse Armrest is a compound curve so that it can conform to a wide variety of body shapes. It is attached to the surface by means of a double-sided adhesive strip, developed to hold it securely without harming the delicate lacquer of the soundboard. If you have a guitar that has a high value as a "collectable", you may want to reflect on the addition of an Armrest because it is not considered "Original Equipment."

The John Pearse Armrest is designed as a permanent addition to the guitar - as is a pick guard or a bridge.

I added the ebony version of this to my Composite Acoustics OX. It is a black OM size guitar. The reason I bought it was for comfort. When I played, I found that my guitar would really dig into my forearm. Adding this makes a huge difference in comfort; plus it give you a little extra volume/clarity. This is one of the best investments I've purchased for playing.

I was first looking at ordering the Junior or Slimline version of this armrest, that seemed to be what everyone on the forums was putting on their OM and 000 guitars. Instead I went with this Original size armrest because I wanted the length. Having a longer armrest allows me to use it more comfortably when seated and when standing. Had I gotten the smaller version, my arm would probably fall behind the rest when sitting.

There is a catch though. When I first stuck this on my baby, the radius of the rounded edge was not quite round enough. It still felt like it dug into my forearm. Also, the cut of the curve did not line up with where I wanted it on the guitar. So I took some waxed dental floss and removed the armrest (it came off pretty easy). I then spent an hour and a half hand-sanding this so it would match the curve of my guitar exactly where I wanted it installed. If you have a belt sander, it'll go quicker. I used 150, 220 and 400 grit. I then sealed it with Dunlop 65 cream of carnauba body gloss. Since I had cut through and ruined the original sticky tape that it came with, I used some 3M VHB tape that I had lying around. VHB is the strong tape. So, if you are following these steps, know that where you stick it is where it stays.

I'll be honest... It was exhausting, but it now looks like an original piece of my guitar. I also increased the radius of the rounded edge from 1/8" to about 3/8". It feels amazing! so comfortable. And she is noticeable louder and clearer now that my wrist is not on the soundboard.

I'm very happy with this armrest. Just wish I'd purchased this sooner.

After buying the armrest and examining it, I thought about how it might affect the resale value and salability of the guitar if I ever decided to sell it. How many people would want an armrest? It turned out to be a moot point. The armrest would fit the curvature of the guitar in only one position. When I rested my arm on the guitar, it (my arm) went behind that position rather than on it. Of course this was a function of the length of my arm and how I hold the guitar, and not necessarily a fault of the product. Hence the average rather than a lower rating. Your mileage may vary. I did not install the armrest. As it turned out, it would have done me no good if I had. And it might have done harm. I'm glad I took the measurements before installation, and before permanently and needlessly altering my guitar. Make one slip and it could be a disaster.
I purchased the rosewood armrest to go with the rosewood sides and back of my guitar. The armrest came with adhesive applied. It was contact cement, so all that would have been needed was removing the paper covering from the adhesive, positioning, and pressing in place. The instructions were well written and easy to understand, and one of those instructions pointed out the importance of careful positioning, because once applied, the adhesive is permanent.
The wood was of good quality and well finished, although smaller than I expected.
I thought the armrest was a bit pricey, but probably worth the cost if it would protect the guitar from the oils of my skin and improve the tone of the guitar as advertised.

I like the armrest, it gives relief to arm fatigue so far. The only drawback is once it's in place, it is a major chore to remove it if you need to.

Comments about John Pearse Acoustic Armrest:

I was getting a polished spot where my arm rested on my satin finish Taylor 110. This not only eliminates that problem, it just blew me away how it opened up the sound. Much more bass and just all around a way more balanced sound. I got the standard ebony R.H, and it fit real close to perfect. Take your time, and follow directions. I don't even know it's there while playing, just way more comfort, way better sound, does everything it say's it will and more!!!

Comments about John Pearse Acoustic Armrest:

This is a RIGHT handed rest only. There is no LEFT handed rest. The description does not describe that it is right hand specific. I lost money in shipping costs to and from, only to find out the rest does not work.

          Very Comfortable

Comments about John Pearse Acoustic Armrest:

I would and did recommend this product to my friends. It looks nice on the guitar and performs well. There are two things I would caution you on. The first is to be careful where you put it. The armrest is designed to be a permanent fixture on your guitar. If you're not sure about that then this product might not be for you. The second is to take the time to measure out where you want it. JP has a website and you can download and print out the size you want and place the paper version on your guitar first to get a feel of where you want it to go. I used a water soluble marker to mark where I wanted mine then stuck it in place. The cut out might even help you decide if you like the look of it before you order. Hope it helps and keep pickin'
It's amazing that something so simple in design can have such an impact on the sound and comfort of your instrument while playing
I chose Rosewood to match my guitar. The tape on the back which is what you use to adhear it to the guitar was hangin over the ends a little. A sharp razor blade and 5 minutes fixed it right up. Aside from that the wood has a nice finish and it looks great.
It does what it says which allows you to play more comfortably and increase the volume.
They claim 15-20% more volume to be exact but I don't know if I bleieve that. I really bought it for the comfort aspect which it is very comfortable. The increased volume was a bonus.

          Guitar Arm Rest

          By

          from Kansas City MO

Comments about John Pearse Acoustic Armrest:

Love it, never have seen any others like it. Was on back order for a month, so apparently not a popular item (need to get the word out)
Really makes a difference getting your arm off the guitar. The slight raise in your arm position also gives a better angle of attack and is very comfortable.
          wood vs. plastic no contest
Considering it will last the life of the guitar it's placed on, it's well worth the money invested.
