OVERVIEW

Seven vintage and modern phaser types in one dynamic, true stereo pedal.

The HardWire SP-7 Stereo Phaser from DigiTech offers seven phaser types based on vintage and modern pedals in true stereo and with tap-tempo speed control. There are a handful of new and quite musical phaser sounds in this box that don't sound dated or used to death on a ton of hit songs already. The 2 stage setting is capable of very subtarely perceptible sweeping that just adds a little enhanced shimmer to your instrument, rather than being a "sound effect".
In the Modern mode, the Modify knob seems to let you set the center of the phase sweep, accenting low mids when turned counterclockwise, and high mids when turned clockwise. Lots of cool and musical phasing can be dialed in. Sounds great on clean tones.
Of course, all the phaser tones from classic songs are in here too. But I was impressed with cool and musical phaser tones I was able to dial in, that I hadn't already heard on a lot of hit songs.
The one thing I'd add is a sawtooth wave LFO setting. But the HyperPhase has that. I've found that setting useful because it adds movement to the sound without the repetitive up/down motion of a sine wave LFO.

so I went to the nearest guitar store to swap my PH-2 with this new phaser from digitech hardwire,as soon as I played through this thing I noticed something,it lacks the top part of its sweep, its not like the PH-3 even when played on stage 10,modern and boutique,I don't know about others that have used this, but me,I'm returning it and getting my boss PH-3 back. The boss PH-3's stage 8 and 10 for me is way better than this phaser.not even close

Comments about DigiTech Hardwire Series SP-7 Stereo Phaser Guitar Effects Pedal:

It almost came off of my pedalboard a few times as I just couldn't seem to get the right tone for the couple of tunes I used it for. I finally dialed down the depth quite a bit and now have a really useful patch. And with the rubber block that covers the knobs, I don't have to worry about my settings changing between gigs. The tap tempo function is terrific, really adds a lot of versatility to the pedal. Well built and a good value.

Comments about DigiTech Hardwire Series SP-7 Stereo Phaser Guitar Effects Pedal:

Only problem I've had [no fault of the pedal] is to dial in the right settings to get the "Small Stone" sweeping effect of the 80's. I know it's there, just haven't found it yet. Love it's looks!

Comments about DigiTech Hardwire Series SP-7 Stereo Phaser Guitar Effects Pedal:

I own five Hardwire pedals (Classic OD, Chorus, Reverb, Rotary Trem and Phaser) and am really impressed with every one of them. Like the other models in the Hardwire line, the SP-7 is rugged, dependable, easy to use, versatile and excellent sounding. The SP-7 offers just about any phaser flavor you could possibly want. The vintage 2, 4 and 10 Stage modes can cover everything from subtle MXR Phase 45 to more pronounced Boss PH-2 tones. I have directly compared my Phase 90 and Small Stone pedals to the SP-7 and can easily dial in the sounds of those analog pedals perfectly. Phase shifting seems to be a difficult effect for modeling software to accurately replicate. However, I think the Hardwire engineers have cracked the code! I'm not sure what circuit the "Boutique" mode models (Keeley?), but that setting may be my favorite for dialing in liquid, spacey tones that sound awesome combined with some delay and reverb.

The Boss PH-3 is another compact and versatile multi- mode digital modeling phase shifter. I think the Hardwire sounds more authentic when it comes to the vintage phase shifting tones. However, the PH-3 contains some very cool experimental sounding modes (Rise, Fall and Step) that I have never heard another phaser produce. For that reason, I use both pedals together; the Hardwire for more traditional phaser tones and the Boss for the crazy sounding synth-type stuff. Overkill, I know! But, if I could have only one, it would be the Hardwire SP-7.

Comments about DigiTech Hardwire Series SP-7 Stereo Phaser Guitar Effects Pedal:

I was looking for a classic rock phaser. This unit does that and much more. There is an envelope setting that I use to mimic that Jerry sound. It's easy to go between different settings. I think this pedal will be on my board for a long time. I like it much more than any MXR phaser I ever played. I've been a gigging pro for 30 years.

Comments about DigiTech Hardwire Series SP-7 Stereo Phaser Guitar Effects Pedal:

Im am not a phase expert. I compared it to bandmates boss ph3. I would say just about equal quality. Just different. I really like the 2 voice option. It is very subtle. Almost like a vibrato. For live its perfect. You can squeeze mxr-90 tones out of it, at least close enough for live. And the other settings I havent really used yet so I cant comment.

I probibly wound not record with it for various reasons. I like to be able to apply this kind if effects later to vary parameters and not be stuck.
But for a demo its great.

great deal as SDOTD. I probibly would not have paid retail for it.

Got this on Stupid Deal recently - no regrets. You can get very subtle sweeps as well as the classic swirl you will recognize from the 60s & 70s. Really like the subtle TREM effects you can get with this thing. Great for rhythm guitar. Adds warmth and a little compression. Lots of fun (for cheap in this case). Try this pedal with a delay. BTW it comes with a slim manual or the PDF manual can be found on line.
