Rhythm sticks made by Rhythm Band Instruments are constructed of fine northern hardwoods which provides for maximum tone and tonal effect. They are beautifully finished in hard, high-glossed enamel and feature rounded ends.
They are a bit on the short side, but for kids this really isn't a big deal. For hitting together they work great, the rubbing (guiro) effect isn't great, but not bad. This might be due to the paint, or maybe the ridges could have been better designed. At any rate this seems to be an issue with all inexpensive rhythms sticks. If you want longer sticks, go with the 'rhythm band' 14 inch ones (they are the blue ones). If you want an even better (little more $$) rhythm stick sound, go with some cheap claves. If you want an even better guiro sound, go with the 'Rhythm Band' guiro tone block, a nice little instrument that comes with a mallet.
