I bought this snare from Musician's Friend after spending almost twice the money at a local music store for a Pork Pie "BOB" snare drum. I wanted to compare the two snares side by side with the same exact heads. I put Evans ST Drys and Evans Hazy 300s on both drums, tuned them to the same pitch and was floored at what I heard! The cheaper Ludwig sounded bigger, louder, and much better than the more expensive Pork Pie snare. The built-in damper is also really nice on the Ludwig. I returned the Pork Pie and saved a bunch of money and in the end have a much better sounding snare! With good heads this snare drum is a REAL ROCKER!!!

Ok yes this is a good deal, but thats it. The drum sounded ok when I took off that Evans head(yuck) I put on a coated Emporer. But after a month of paying the throw-off broke so now I have a snare-less snare drum, If your a experienced drummer do not buy, if you are a Bonham fan like me save up for the Supra. If you are a beginer any thing is better than the snare you have now. I hope this helped some people. But do not be discouraged from buying this I am only one opinion

This was an upgrade snare drum from a standard one I had and it turned out to be a good one. Although, I have never played any really expensive snare drums with my kit, I have to say that this one is the best I have played. Originally I wasn't that happy with it because it was a 6 and 1/2 by 14 in and I could not get the John Bonham sound that I wanted. But after I tightened the crap out of both sides of it, I got a really good crack from it. It turned out to be a great Christmas present!

I bought a drum set off of my friend a while ago and it came with a ludwig rockers with the stock heads on it. God only knows how old the thing is, but it still sounds better pretty much any other snare I've played with. If you like that Chad Smith crack, crank this bad boy up and it will deliver a crack of thunder from beyond this earth. I just played an un-miced live show and it cut through everything, echoing through the auditorium, sounded great! and I still have the stock heads, barely alive, I'm curious as to what this will sound like with some brand new ones on it. Good buy

Hey, my old snare drum was broken, so my dad bought me this one. And when i played it, awe man BEAUTY. This gave me the best present i have got from my dad. The Evan Skin made it even more amazing withs it crack, snap, and pop sound. you have to get one of these. BEAUTY

When I was in my concert band in high school, i played on one of these snares. I fell in love with the sound of it immediately. There's really no other way to describe its sound other than it sounds like John Bonhams (with remo Pinstripe batter head and stock resonant head and snares). You really can't go wrong with this snare. It is definitely one of the best snares around.

This snare is absolutely incredible! I have owned for about a month now and fell in love with it. My mom got it for me because I have an old acrolite snare that needed the tender love and care that I just could not give it. I am 13 and have played with my own kit since I was about 8 but have been around drums all my life. This snare works for all kinds of music, from mudvayne and slipknot to led zeppelin and im sure it could work for country and jazz also. Overall just a great snare and I love it!
Comments about Ludwig Rocker Steel Shell Snare Drum:
I've been playing drums for about 9 years now, and I was a little worried about how this snare would sound. Its a metal snare and the most common place to find one of those are on the crappy beginner sets, and of course those always sound like trash. Having said that, I ran into a ludwig kit my church had bought and the thing I noticed most about the kit was the snare. This was just a plain low-end or "entry level" kit, but the snare was as good as, if not better than, the one on my yamaha stage custom. So after reading positive reviews I decided to buy it.The features are a 4 because even though its a great snare it doesn't have great features such as die cast hoops or rubber washers in between the metal shell and lugs. Quality is 4.5 because everything is pretty solid except the throw off... the arm feels a little flimsy, but that might never be a problem.Value is 4.5 just because the price is fair, but its not a super value. plus its made in Taiwan. This is a great sounding drum for not a lot of money. its not a warm sounding drum, but it would do well in a stage setting or an upgrade from an entry level drum. I'm happy with mine.p.s. I prefer a remo coated ambassador head while using the dampener and a moon gel pad.

I just got this snare for christmas. I absolutly love it! it sounds amazing, and its a Ludwig, so you know its good quailty. The Evans head on the drum is even better, and helps the snare pop even more. If your looking for a good drum, here it is!
