This is a good overall marimba. Better the the Windstar or whatever the 4 octave small one of this brand is called.Sustain is not as warm as I like. It does carry well and volumewise it is fine, however it lacks a richness that the fiberglass fails to carry out.Besides that, this makes a good high school/college marimba. The range is standard, so most solo pieces are playable on here (unlike the 4 octave models) It also makes a good studio marimba as the lack of sustain DOES help when recording. A good basic model for those who are not going beyond the band/field. Orchestrawise this fails to preform as it is easily muddled by the strings and brass. Solowise this is fine, but again, the lack of richness, does not suit me personally.
