Comments about Musser Student Xylo-Kit:
After weeks of research, I finally chose the Musser M41 for my high school daughter. I had hoped to find a used unit - I watched eBay for months - but any in good condition fetched a high price (plus a large shipping fee, too). The M41 is imported - and might not be as rugged as the 'real' Mussers. But it's legs are welded tubular and box shaped metal. It seems perfectly fine for the home and light travel. The legs fold easily enough, but you first need to remove the bars in order to remove the resonators (which pop right out). My only disappointment regarding the stand is that the wheels (at the small end) are close together - such that the unit might get knocked over if a kids got too careless. The height adjustment is a bit awkward - knobs screw into "indentations" in a shaft rising up from each wheel - it works, but it's unrefined. I didn't find much advice about choosing a xylophone...and even the cheapest model is a significant investment. I was afraid that the M41 might be a "toy" - but I'm not afraid of that anymore. I'm pleased with the quality and sound. And, if daughter "moves up" (or moves on), this model didn't break the bank.Lastly, the unit was packed securely, and it arrived quickly and safely. I buy from both my local music store and online. Musician's Friend hasn't failed me yet.
