My Gong is round. Though square stands are becoming popular "I wanted round"! The problem with the Paiste round Gong stand are the legs are way to large and tall making the stand almost too tall for the inside of my house. I managed to find a nice heavy round 40+" Gong stand with legs much lower by searching and searching the world over. search.."Center yourself Gong stands"!! As for the hooks to hang my beautiful Paiste Gong up with. Their not any problem. My God,they run parallel with the diameter of the gong ring so when the gong swings a tad it is actually swinging the opposite direction of the hook. If someone is knocking theirs off it really makes me wonder what their doing with it. Bonham's never fell. The square models here are great and will work and if you buy the round model you could take a band saw or careful hack saw to the legs to shorten it. The width will be shorter but it will be lower center of gravity and it will not tip over. It will work fine either way.The choice is yours... Me?...I wanted Round! My Gong isn't square is it? I couldn't lie to myself. If I have to go to the trouble to buy a large gong ring for what I need then it needs to be what I truly want. I gave Paiste a average rating here because they need a round model with lower legs. Bonham's earlier ones were lower. So if your not going to light it on fire it doesn't need to be almost too tall to reach.
The Paiste square gong stand is the most common stand being used for gongs throughout the world. This is because of the features that this stand has that makes it superior to all others. First off, it's very sturdy and can hold any gong that will fit in the square. Second, the two rings on the top crossbar keep the gong from falling, unlike the U-shaped hangers that other gong stands have. Third is that the legs adjust independently, and height when the legs are fully extended is close to 6 feet. This stand also can be taken apart into 8 different pieces; top crossbar, bottom crossbar, two side verticals, two legs, and two feet. All together, this makes the ultimate stand for any and all types of gongs, Paiste or not.
