First started using these back in High School, mainly for snare drum in Concert Band. Since then I've incorporated them into my set playing and these are really my favorite sticks to play with. I can't stand how light sticks break so easily and don't feel like I'm really hitting the drums with anything. With these, they're nice and thick and really hit hard, which is nice when you're playing a lot of metal/heavier beats. If you're playing Jazz or any form of light, pianissimo-esque music on a set then you may as well hit that back button on your internet browser and look for another set of sticks. These are great for dynamic snare, and heavy set playing, though. Love them, love them, love them. Only sticks I ever buy anymore!

Comments about Vic Firth American Custom SD1 General Drumsticks:
These sticks the best option for students. They are highly durable, I had the same pair throughout middle school. I wouldn't exactly recommend for drum set, but works great for snare and is thick enough to be used for cowbell, temple blocks, and other common percussion instruments.
Comments about Vic Firth American Custom SD1 General Drumsticks:
I am an amatuer drummer and have only drummued for about a year, but I love these sticks. My advice to anyone, buy theses sticks.

Comments about Vic Firth American Custom SD1 General Drumsticks:
These sticks are awesome! They feel great, and sound real good. I got a pair of these from a Pearl concert kit last year in beging band. A couple days ago I broke them and now started looking for good sticks to replace them.
Comments about Vic Firth American Custom SD1 General Drumsticks:
No matter what somebody tells you these are great drum set sticks, i like the thicker sticks for the power but the light wight of smaller sticks and these sticks are great.
Comments about Vic Firth American Custom SD1 General Drumsticks:
Really, they're essential for concert or orchestral snare work. For that reason, it receives straight fives, as it is still the benchmark drumstick in that area. But as other reviewers have noted, they make an excellent drumset stick for playing louder music. They weigh about the same as a 5B, but they are much thicker, giving a huge sound. Maple is weaker than hickory, but the extra thickness compensates for this and the sticks are actually quite durable. They tend to wear away slowly, rather than split down the middle (although I have had some snap at the shoulder).I wouldn't recommend these for jazz playing, as they make the ride sound a little damp; but if you like maple sticks, go for the SD4 for a crisp sound.
