Good for begginers

By The Aaronator

from Missouri

This kit is what our concert band uses for 7th grade. The bells are pretty good, though brass mallets will reek havoc on them. Begginers can write the notes on the keys with Dry Erase markers. The music holders that attach to the bells work good with sheet music, but are a bit too flimsy for a book. The hardware is very sturdy and is top grade. The snare is less than great. As newbies, we all thought they sounded great at the beggining of the year. But now it's easy to tell that the snares sound like crap. Most of the snares will not even sound like snares if you don't hit it hard enough. The shell is ok, but I would suggest getting new heads and maybe new snare strings. The Vic Firth sticks are amzing, as always (SDI General). The mallets are ok. The most common problem is the head coming off. With 12 people, a couple heads would come off per week. I wrapped electric tape around the head and a little ways down the shaft, it kept it sturdy and sounded great. Pratctice pad is good, but is not as bouncy as I would prefer. You can take the foam out of it, but it's pretty loud then. The carring case is great. I have dragged it up my 100 yd. long driveway so many times yet the wheeles still are in good condition. The only problem is that the extendible handle is really short. If you have long legs it will hit your heels as you walk. You can see how far it extends in the picture.Over all, this is great for a beggining band. Though some quality issues, I would reccommend it to anybody starting off in a concert band.
