OVERVIEW

An affordable condenser that can handle high SPLs.

AKG's industry-leading C414 microphones are already a permanent fixture in the world's biggest recording studios and a highly respected workhorse for independent artists, broadcasting, and on-stage miking as well.

The new C214 is designed as a cost-effective alternative to the high-end, industry-leading C414 family. It captures sound combining one side of the legendary C414 dual-capsule system and AKG's patented Back-Plate Technology, which results in an outstanding performance very close to the famous C414 B-XLS.

Like the C414 models, the C214 is capable of handling the rigors of high-pressure sound such as amplified guitars, with a sensitivity perfect for voice and orchestral instruments as well. Additionally, the microphone offers a 20dB Attenuation pad, 13dB noise floor, and a low cut switch - all in an elegant but rugged package.

Additional features include an integrated suspension, a double mesh grill high RF immunity without affecting acoustics. The circuitry in the C214 provides maximum SPL capability with minimum noise and the gold-plated XLR-type output connector offers loss-free signals.

The C214 comes complete with carrying case, windscreen, and spider suspension mount included.

FEATURES
  • AKG's Legendary 1" Edge-Terminated Large Diaphragm Sound
  • Outstanding Dynamic Range (up to 156dB SPL, Ultra-Low Noise)
  • Roadworthy design
  • Integrated Suspension to reduce mechanical Noise
  • Switchable 20dB Attenuation Pad and Low Cut Switch
  • Rugged double mesh grille for high RF immunity but unaffected Acoustics
  • All-metal Die-cast body with shock- and scratch-resistant Finish
  • Spider-type Shockmount included

This is a must buy for anyone's mic locker. Most people use it for backing vocals or overheads for drums but put it on your main vocal and you wont be let down. make sure you have all the right gear to feed that little guy tho! nothing worse than someone giving a bad review on a good mic because of their horrible gear thats linked to it. This is my first AKG mic and it sure wont be my last!!!!!
The low cut and pad on it are very very nice. well made and sturdy. This mic feels really good in your hands and sounds amazing when its warmed up.
Superb quality! Akg is out of Austria and i trust that way more than China. Very solid and sturdy and i love the simplicity of it.
For the price this thing cant be beat! i was told by a salesman to give it a shot and boy was he right. matched up with my apogee duet and a gogami gold studio cable it will give thousand dollar mics a run for their money!

I'm posting an honest and objective opinion because I know there are two types of people in music so I won't be so critical. If you are doing serious recording and running your studio as a business (Like me for example) I wouldn't recommend this mic. This mic is decent as long as you record vocals that aren't too high. Meaning, my singer's vocals didn't do well on this mic. The reason I know the difference is because the vocals were recorded on a Neumann before and we had to make 2 edits. When I made the edits I used the AKG. The loud notes that she recorded on the Neumann were perfect, on the AKG, muffled and just no good. I took the mic back immediately. If you are doing this just for podcasts, radio show, etc., it's fine. I don't see any advantage is getting this mic as opposed a less expensive one. If mics can't pick up every sound well, don't waste the money. Just get a cheaper mic

Comments about AKG C214 Large Diaphragm Condenser Mic:

The AKG C214 is my first mic purchase in this high a price range. I bought it on the recommendation of a friend and pro studio engineer. Additionally, I had just purchased the ART MPA Pro II mic preamp. So upon hooking up the C214 for the first time, I had two new pieces to contend with. My unfamiliarity with the preamp didn't help the mic any but after about an hour I was able to get these two pieces to work well together. For me, this mic didn't just jump off the charts because it was a different breed than others I have been using. I had to get to know it and how to use it and it rewarded me with a much improved result.
Experiment with distance and settings and you will get very quiet excellent results on vocal and acoustic.

Comments about AKG C214 Large Diaphragm Condenser Mic:

This is my first lower mid level mic purchase and I am very happy with it. Recorded with it the other day and the singer was blown away at the improvement over my last mic. I do not think that I will have to do much to the vocal recording when mixing. Just awesome.

Comments about AKG C214 Large Diaphragm Condenser Mic:

I own quite a few microphones however I will compare the C214 to my Rode classic 2 Limited edition. Understandably the Rode is a better microphone for SOME vocals (Its hard to say all because that is a very broad answer and depending what your target outcome is it might not be as good as another microphone however for Hip hop/rap vocals its perfect)

I have used the C214 for hip hop/rap vocals and some singing as well and it does a great job for a cheap microphone! It will give you a brighter vocal especially compared to the Classic II however this is not necessarily a bad thing.

I have used the C214 to record saxophone and it has to be one of the best saxophone microphones for under 2000. If your a saxophone player I highly recommend this microphone (just remember you will need a room with a good acoustic to record it)

All in all WELL WORTH IT TO START OUT!

Comments about AKG C214 Large Diaphragm Condenser Mic:

AKG completely owns the market on condenser mics under five hundred bones. This mic is exceptionally versatile, and can be easily used for male/female vocals, acoustic instruments, percussion, and to mic amps. All sound great. The 214 is the 414's little brother that occasionally beats 414 in sports.

Comments about AKG C214 Large Diaphragm Condenser Mic:

This was my first real mic purchase. Since purchasing this in 2009 I have since purchased 2 414's and a sterling audio ST-77. This mic is a definite go to mic. It's consistent, reliable, smooth on the top end and well worth the money you pay. This mic gets used about 60-70 percent of the time in my studio. It's price point is incredible as well. Don't hesitate to buy this mic. I do find there's a little more headspace in this mic than your standard 414 but there's a little less bottom in the mic as well. The minor lack of bottom doesn't bother me with the right pre-amp. And on another note it does record a pretty killer electric guitar sound!
