Comments about AKG Perception 120 Condenser Microphone:

I've been doing home recording since 2000, and own a decent arsenal of mics already. I bought this because it came in a package with other things I needed already, so it was uber cheap.

If you're looking for a good and inexpensive mic, buy a Shure SM57, an MXL V63m, or a Blue Spark and move on. This mic is one of the poorest sounding mics I own, mostly because it lacks midrange detail and the sensitivity usually associated with a condenser. It sounds more like a cheap dynamic mic. I only use it as a second drum overhead paired with a Rode NTK to pick up all of the detail.

If paired with a decent preamp, it could probably be used effectively on some voices too, but honestly, you're better off saving up and buying a better mic. Don't waste your money.

Comments about AKG Perception 120 Condenser Microphone:

I've been using this microphone for home studio recording since 2009. I still use this mic. It's very good for the price and that was when it was listed for 100 or something. The vocals are great once you touch it up with some EQ. I recommend this to anybody on a budget looking for quality sound.

        Best Bang for your Buck

        By InseparableMusic

        from Seattle, WA

Comments about AKG Perception 120 Condenser Microphone:

I recently put this mic in a head-to-head vs. other similar mics in it's price range. hands down it took the prize. better clarity and cut through the mix amazingly. a relatively low signal to noise ratio and 20db pad and roll off were awesome. if you are looking for a great mic at a low budget, this is the one to get. perfect for overheads, guitar cab, ambient mic, choir vocals, and general miking. even vs an audio technica AT4040 (200 bucks more), this thing surpassed it in all aspects. buy this mic, you will not be disappointed.

Comments about AKG Perception 120 Condenser Microphone:

I bought this mic about one year ago, it was WAY better than the one I had before. It is a good vocal mic but for the acoustic guitar....so so. Good for the buck, but if you farther in your recording carrer dont get it.

        Great Starter Mic

        By Chase-DEoD_

        from New York

Comments about AKG Perception 120 Condenser Microphone:

This is a great entry-level mic. I use it all the time in my semi-pro studio. I've used it extensively to do vocals and acoustic guitar, and I've had very good luck with it. Mind you, it isn't going to sound like a C414 or a Neumann... there is a reason it doesn't cost $1000. But if a high end mic isn't in your budget, then you can't go wrong with a Perception. Even as your mic cabinet grows, you'll still call upon this as a good, reliable mic.
