I?m using this Audio Technica PRO 70 Condenser mic in an archtop (jazz) guitar as part of a dual source system (pickup + mic). I don?t have any feedback problems because the floor monitor only has the sound of the pickup coming through (while the audience hears the mix of both mic + pickup.) Also, the mic is mounted inside the guitar, which helps keep down feedback. Some musicians use an in-ear monitor (earbuds) to eliminate unwanted mic feedback. My setup requires some notch filtering through an EQ (to cut out some of the boxiness). I have the power pack (about the size of a Blackberry phone) clipped onto my strap and there?s two cables hanging from my guitar because the mic cable has a different impedance from the pickup. All this complication is well worth it because of the great sound that results. Chords no longer sound ?electronic? or muddy. Individual notes are crisp (I?m going for a clean sound). The mic captures the natural acoustic qualities of the guitar unlike any magnetic pickup I?ve ever tried. The Pro 70 brings out a unique clarity that now gives my guitar a wonderfully bright voice. I have the EQ for the mic set to let the highs through, while the pickup goes through a Digitech effects processor and is set so that most of the highs are cut down somewhat. The two signals are blended together through a small mixer. You can really get a nice acoustic guitar sound out of the Pro 70 mic if it?s positioned outside the guitar, but I didn?t want to hassle with any possible feedback issues on stage. If you do this, you may want to use in-ear monitors, instead of floor monitors. Also, you may experience some unwanted finger squeak. The Pro 70 doesn?t need phantom power, but it does require some kind of preamp? like a small mixer, for example. My Digitech JamMan works perfectly for this, as it has an XLR input and a jack output. I suggest keeping most of your pedals and preamps all mounted on a single board and ready-cabled up. Most of my stuff is already cabled together in a couple of old computer laptop bags, so that set-up time is minimized. You will ned to spend some time at home with the Pro 70 before performing. If you're looking for a guitar mic you should consider things like: phantom power, XLR impedance matching, pre-amplification, bulkiness and set-up time. Read all the reviews on a product before you buy. One more thing about feedback: I was able to plug this mic into my Fender amp and stand about 8 feet away, but whenever I moved in closer to turn a knob I experienced feedback. Any microphone will do this.

I am not to happy with this AT-pro 70. I use this in my studio to record interviews via Zoom h4n. After the Recording is finished and imported to FCP(Final Cut Pro) for a play back the sound of the person speaking in very low. The mac volume is ste to 100%. In post I can fix that but I dont get the quality I need. So I will give it a try to a different mic.

Comments about Audio-Technica PRO 70 Cardioid Condenser Lavalier / Instrument Microphone:

I do Podcast interviews as well as Screen Cast. I run into a Tascam DR-40 digital recorder. Since I can inset a battery into the Pro 70, I never use the phantom power on the Tascam. The bass cut switch is great and this mic cuts my post production by 50%. I own for of these mics and if they were stolen from me, I would be on-line in a heart beat, buying four more!

Comments about Audio-Technica PRO 70 Cardioid Condenser Lavalier / Instrument Microphone:

Primary use is to interface a Harpsicle into a looping rig for performance and recording. AT is a favored brand for us because of reliability, price, sound and the ease of contact/cordiality with repair at USA center. Price was right, clips are very multi-use, response is nice and hot. We use it in a board with compression and EQ to dial in the sound. When the mic is in the harp sound hole, it is easy to hear the voice of the harpist and tap/thumps on the body. All of these factors make the mic perfect for a looping harpist. It also works great as a pickup for acoustic guitar (steel or nylon) and as a lapel mic. AT makes great gear.

            Nice instrument mic for cello

Comments about Audio-Technica PRO 70 Cardioid Condenser Lavalier / Instrument Microphone:

Our Cello/Classical guitar duo was our main bread and butter for some years. We've done many, many wedding ceremonies, fancy dinner parties etc as professional musicians. I've tried every piezo ceramic cello pickup made before switching my focus to mics. I decided to try the pro70 because it's billed as an instrument mic with a sound-hole clip. I built a make-shift mount to clip the mic in a good spot on the cello, and after some experimenting concluded that we had achieved adequate sound quality on the cello at long last. The pro70 brings a nice, warm, full signal into the mixing board with no unpleasant frequencies I've ever felt a need to EQ out of the mix.
We've been gigging regularly with this mic for 6 or 7 years and never had a malfunction (other than low battery). We've been pretty careful with it, but it's still remarkably durable and reliable. I came to this site looking to buy 3 more so I can mic the string quartet.
On a side note, I have tried to clip it on for vocals in a pinch and found it a really lousy setup for singing.

                        Great Live Performance Mic

Comments about Audio-Technica PRO 70 Cardioid Condenser Lavalier / Instrument Microphone:

I play classical guitar and have been using this mic for about 6 months. I have run it straight into a PA & through an unbalanced XLR to 1/4" cable into a cheap practice amp & the result was the same - pretty darn good!
At a recent private party the host was insisting on using his dynamic mic and mic stand until he sat in the back of the room and heard the difference, then he was convinced.
I think it's superior to a mic and mic stand in most live performance situations.
This clip appears to be designed with the classical guitarist in mind - the mic can be moved away from you right hand but still pic up great sound.
I've had it 6 months and no problems - haven't had to change the batteries yet.
