OVERVIEW

A professional large-diaphragm condenser microphone with unsurpassed audio quality for both live and studio applications.

The ultra-affordable Behringer C-1 microphone is a large-diaphragm condenser mic with a cardioid polar pattern providing the performance you'd expect from a studio microphone costing hundreds more. With its high-quality transducer and gold-plated XLR output, the condenser mic is very neutral-sounding and truly delivers on the promise of noise-free transmission. It also offers a phantom power LED indicator and a swivel stand mount. Whether miking acoustic or electric instruments or using it for vocals or drums, the Behringer C-1 is an excellent choice for both live and studio applications.

FEATURES
  • Exceptionally flat frequency response and ultra-high sound resolution
  • Cardioid pickup pattern for outstanding sound source separation and feedback rejection

I bought this over two years ago and could not be happier. Use it for home recording and even use it live. If you buy one you may want to reduce the treble in your eq because if you don't the feedback is killer. Use it without eq like the user guide says and you should be fine. It is unidirectional but if you face a wall and turn the mic capsule around so it faces the wall and away from you you can get a very nice reflected sound, like a very short delay or room reverb. At this price you can get one for everybody in the band. I would say check out some music I recorded with it on myspace but that would probably violate the product review guidelines ;-)

when i bought the C1, i was unexperienced, i thought it was possible to get a cheap studio microphone. I was naive.

At some point, i wanted to use it for podcasting but i have discovered it was difficult to manage the difference of volume, if you move aways from the mic just a bit, your volume tremendously go down. So, if you are streaming, your listener have to turn up the volume or turn down the volume.

Comments for guitar player:
I looked for cardiod option to mix the output from guitar with the C1 input for environment. I have never succeeded in getting anything good. However, i think at some point i have tried a pre amp but it distorted the sound. Strangly enough i had better result with a regular Shure microphone for my guitar.

Comments for podcasters, singers and voice-overs
Anyways, after recording my podcasts and even after normalising my track, the dynamics are too high between lowest and highest.

It is very receptive to P & T and even with anti pop filter it is still peaking.

Invest into a more expensive microphone, if you want mininum quality like MXL, AKG, Rode or even Blue even if you are an amateur... I tell you so because i know the audio signature of MXL, AKG and Rode, and if you sing in one of those mic, there is a satisfaction feeling because of the warmth and balanced sound. On the other hand, the behringer looks like some engineer tried to get into the mic business, get very much inspired by a neumann but didn't get anything really out of it.

Comments about Behringer C-1 Condenser Mic:

I bought this mic five years ago, thinking to use it in home recording. At first I was impressed with the crisp sound and increased output over the Shure SM58. However, when gains were adjusted to be equal, there was more hiss in the C1 than I judged acceptable for recording. I bought an MXL V63 and found substantial improvement over the white noise of the Behringer C1. Still, the Behringer was a good value as an introduction to condenser mics. I have seen it used on instruments in live performances, and I think that is where it works best. I recently sold the C1, which means it did not cost very much to try.

Comments about Behringer C-1 Condenser Mic:

For Vocals this out-performs top microphones that cost three times as much. I use the Art Tube MP pre-amp without the 20 mb gain. I use my AT2035 for the guitar amp. You would think that it would be the other way around. They have since come out with the C-3. But the cardioid sound is enough for me. I wanted to upgrade and bought several other microphones which I returned because this was the best. I heard the NT-1A has similar characteristics but at three times the price I'm not even going to try. This one does it for me.

i've used the mic for a month now to record vocals and guitar solos in my home studio. it's easy to use seems to work well especially for vocals. my only small complaint is it seems to be picky about which cables it likes, but that is minor.
i like it so far, and you can't beat the price.

Comments about Behringer C-1 Condenser Mic:

I was looking for a large diaphragm for my home studio & hoping to find something affordable. The C-1 fit the bill. Granted it is NOT Neuman, but the clarity was unbelievable. It came in the sturdy black case for transport. I like! I have used it in rehearsal with my sound system and it sounded awesome!. I then recorded one on my new tunes, first recording acoustic guitar, then vocals. To say the least, I was extremely pleased. I will soon replace the plastic holder for a real shock mount. I would really recommend that. I also use EV PL84 mics mainly for live now. The C-1? As soon as I can, I am getting another one!

I didn't realize when I bought it that it has to be powered, you cannot simply plug it into anything. It requires "phantom power" which must be built into the device you're plugging into, or you must buy a phantom power supply.(I bought one for cheap). The mic is durable, BIG, and records nicely for my home studio. Good price for what you get.

I got this mic about a year ago and havnt really given it much use until the past few weeks..I never knew how amazing it sounded! I used it on a violin, an acoustic guitar, and a drum overhead and it sounds spectacular in all situations. very impressed. will probably get more in the future. I gave it a 4 in quality because my clip just randomly broke today :/ but thats easily fixable! BUY IT!
