I purchased a pair of C9s for home use. I have professional recording studio and I wanted a cheap stereo pair for home recording. So far I've used them on an acoustic guitar and upright piano. To get the best results I've placed the mics very close to the source in both cases. Too far away and you start to get more room ambiance and depending on the room acoustics, you may not want that. I am looking for a tighter sound and they sound very good if you close mic the source.

For a Stupid Deal price they sound great for a home recording option.

Comments about CAD C9 Cardioid Pencil Condenser Microphone:

I'm a sound designer, and I would say without reservation that a pair of these microphones is one of the best purchases I've made. The price is obviously a steal, especially considering how versatile this mic is. It's clear without being gritty, has a decent output level without a high noise floor, and is remarkably durable considering it's a pencil condenser. If I'm not recording a voice over or using my field recorder out and about, I use these mics exclusively when working on sound design, and I've never thought twice about it. They work great on every sound I've thrown their way!

Comments about CAD C9 Cardioid Pencil Condenser Microphone:

This is a really small mic. It works well for acoustic guitar (neck position), mandolin and banjo. It is a bit limited in frequency response on the high end but that works well in a live situation where high end feedback is a problem. 13k will still get a lot of the upper brightness that most can hear.

Comments about CAD C9 Cardioid Pencil Condenser Microphone:

I bought on a Stupid Deal like most other people. Since it was half off I don't feel like I have the right to complain. I got it for acoustic guitar and it was decent because I had nothing else (I owned mostly dynamic mics at the time) to record acoustic with. but I wouldn't pay wholesale for this mic as I felt it was too thin sounding on the acoustic. CAD is a fantastic company and I own two m179s which are absolutely amazing but for double the price of one of these(which is steal a steal). I use them for acoustic guitar as well as overheads and I love them. The only thing the C9 gets used for now is spot-miking hi-hats, because of it's brighter sound It is perfect for that simple task.

I had to record some folks all in the same room and wanted to get a good level on the guitar. I was amazed how much it picked up. Over all this mic is great for drums, guitar, or mid to high end sounds.

Right now I have this set up to mike my hi-hat. This will be used for amateur recordings and performances. Gives a nice clear sound. I'm very satisfied with the mike at this point, although I do wish it had come with a windscreen for outside use. Good value in my opinion.
