OVERVIEW

Great overhead cymbal and instrument microphone

The PL37 small diaphragm condenser overhead cymbal and instrument microphone redefines exceptional price-to-performance standards in its class. Equally suited for live or studio miking situations, the PL37 is well on its way toward acceptance as a true workhorse microphone.

Comments about Electro-Voice PL37 Small Diaphragm Condenser Microphone:

I've had my PL-37 for about 18 months now. I have used it for guitar, banjo, mandolin, cello, and drum overheads with much success. I am impressed by how well it is built. It feels sturdy, and I'm very comfortable taking this mic with me. The sound is very detailed. I find the clarity this mic provides is very well suited for string instruments, as well as percussion. Highly recommended.

Comments about Electro-Voice PL37 Small Diaphragm Condenser Microphone:

EV keeps its good reputation and sets a high standard for affordable mics with the PL37.

You wont get anywhere near the quality for price with any other brand.. maybe Audix in a close second.

I use 2 of these, an EV PL33 Kick mic and a good ol' SM57 for snare.. and that's it. Recordings are shining and easy to mix.

The PL37 seems to have a tighter pattern than most small D condensers, making it perfect for minimalist drum kit recording. I don't even need to gate the snare to cut bleeding. Just point and EQ.

It can be a little chimey, but nothing you cant EQ out. Its better to have more than not enough.

I imagine it would sound great coupled with a ribbon mic for piano and horns, haven't tried that yet.

Comments about Electro-Voice PL37 Small Diaphragm Condenser Microphone:

I'm a drummer and not a sound engineer or anything of the sort. I recently needed to be able to record my drums to be able to collaborate with my guitarists which lives in another city. I was amazed at the quality of EV's PL Series. A little research on placement and I was at near studio quality with 2 PL-37's overhead a PL-35 for the snare and a PL-33 for the kick. The cymbals were picked up very clearly in the mix.

        EV PL37 small condenser mic

        By Tom Frederick

        from Southern Oregon

Comments about Electro-Voice PL37 Small Diaphragm Condenser Microphone:

I purchased a pair of these to use as drumset overhead mics because I felt the ones (MXL 603 and AKG 1000) I had were less than stellar, and I'm delighted with the results. I also used them on acoustic piano and was equally impressed. Best small condensers I've owned. In fact, I'm thinking I need a couple more! At this price, they are a best buy.
