The MXL 920 is a wide diaphragm condenser microphone for vocals or instruments with a cardioid response pattern. It is ideal for guitars and drums, and also good for singers too. Its response pattern features a gradual rise from 20Hz through 200Hz, with a dip between 300Hz and 2kHz. There is slight rise from there with a peak at 5kHz. It is a side-address mic. Comments about MXL 920 Large-Capsule Condenser Microphone:
I bought this for like 80% off as a Stupid Deal of the Day, with the intent of shipping it off directly to Michael Joly at oktavamods dot com. He has a mod for this mic which makes this mic sound a LOT like a U67; no joke. So, for the original cost of the mic, I got the mic PLUS the modification from Mr. Joly. GREAT deal. I'm not sure if I would spend the full price for this mic; there are other better mics that cost just a bit more than this one that sound great without modification. (For clarity's sake, I only would recommend this to a friend if it was at the super-low price at which I bought it such that they could take the cash they saved and have it modified.)
