OVERVIEW

To celebrate 15 years of the RODE NT1 and NT1-A, R˜DE Microphones has created a revised NT1-A package including a premium shockmount, pop filter, cable, microphone dust cover, and a bonus instructional DVD.

Originally released in 1995, the RODE NT1 mic is found in professional and project studios the world over. Its combination of clarity, warmth, extended dynamic range and high SPL capability made it an instant classic with professional engineers and home recording artists alike.

Following heavy investment in precision manufacturing, RODE revised the microphone capsule and electronic design of the NT1, resulting in only 5dB SPL (A-weighted per IEC651) of self noise. Released in 2003 as the NT1-A, it has since become one of the world's biggest selling and most recognizable condenser microphones.

Now RODE has truly made the NT1-A the complete recording solution by including a premium shockmount with integrated pop filter, high-quality 6m (20') XLR cable, microphone dust cover and even a bonus instructional DVD. Presented by R˜DE founder and company president, Peter Freedman, The NT1-A Studio Secrets DVD features a range of tips and techniques to help RODE NT1-A owners get the most from their new microphone.

Popular condenser mic with shock mount, integrated pop filter, 20' XLR cable, dust cover, and instructional DVD.

Simply can't be beat in this price range. It's a good mic, and not just "for the money" either.
My college had a couple sets of these and I liked their smooth sound so much I bought two. I use them predominatnly to record orchestral and/or choral music in a church, meaning that low self-noise (they test at about 6dB, which is waaaay low) is a huge plus -- no hissssssss in the quiet parts. The included shockmount in the package is a huge plus, too, although the pop filter assembly is a bit cheesy if I'm honest -- with the filter plus mic, it gets quite heavy for the little hinge that moutns to the mic stand, so you either have to crank down on the wingnut or accept that it will droop.
Rode build quality is very impressive. The nickel will probably show scratches easily...
The best thing about this mic is that for the price you're getting a fantastically quiet large-diaphragm condenser that blows any others at this price range out of the water. It's not a flat frequency response, though, as it's got a bit of a bright personality with a boost at and above 2khz.

Decent all around mic for a home studio on a budget, but Rode customer service is terrible. My unreliable rating is for service, not the mic itself. Glitchy web site, and you can expect very long wait times for responses to support requests. In light of this, I would not purchase again. I will try a different company.

Comments about Rode Microphones NT1-A Condenser Mic Bundle:

I'm on the move right now, spending 3 years abroad, but I still wanted to record some stuff as the inpiration comes... and this mic is all I need. Makes my Taylor GS Mini and Washburn Mandolin sound amazing acoustically with no unwanted extra noise. I was also suprised that some extra sounds I could hear with my naked ears do not show up when I recorded with it, yet it still captures the full sound of my instruments and voice. A must for beginner and expeirienced people recording music.

Comments about Rode Microphones NT1-A Condenser Mic Bundle:

I've been using a dynamic mic for home recording the past couple years then decided to try a condenser mic. This was on sale, but the back order time was a few weeks. Luckily, MF was selling an open box item for so I took a chance. The mic makes my voice sound like it naturally does. It doesn't make my voice sound better than it actually is, but it doesn't make it sound worse which some mics can do if it doesn't match your voice and style. I'm completely satisfied with this model so far because it fits my budget and gives me a higher quality sound for my demo recordings. One slight irritation: when I set up the mic mount on my stand, I noticed that the mount bracket was slightly bent to the side about 2 degrees. It had no effect on its performance, but the asymmetrical aesthetics drove me to distraction. So, I bent the bracket with my fingers back to center. I'm assuming the bend was caused by the first person who used it. (It was an open box deal). Other than that, I'm 100% satisfied. Kudos to MF for the price break and the quick delivery.

Comments about Rode Microphones NT1-A Condenser Mic Bundle:

I've used a lot of mics in this price range, and the Rode NT1a has to be the best by a long shot. I love this mic! I will admit that it is a little on the low end, as most cheaper mics are, but play with an eq and it balances out nicely. My biggest problem is the shock mount that comes with it. The thing is not sturdy at all. It takes a lot of effort to get the mic to sit upright on the stand and not droop down from its own weight. It's not even a heavy mic, but it is a bulky shock mount. Also, the bands on the shock mount get stretched out easily. After a few months of use mine have been falling off more and more frequently, and I've noticed the elasticity is not that great anymore. The pop filter kinda blows (pun intended). I would recommend getting a new pop filter with this mic, cause your 'p's and 't's are going to cut right through. It helps. But it's not up to par with one you can get for cheap.
Accessories aside, this thing is great. I have recorded the room for guitar tracks and it holds up well. Drums, it does okay. I wouldn't use it on any final mixes, but for a quick run through for tempos sake, It'll do the job. All-in-all this is a vocal mic, and you won't be disappointed when using it as such. This is my second one and I know other local home studios that have gotten one because of me. Great product!

Sound quality is great, mic is versatile and adapts easily to different vocals/instruments, it comes with everything you need to get going (except a mic stand, but you really should have one of those by now). Highly recommended.
