Studio quality in a live vocal mic.

The RØDE S1 Pro Vocal Condenser Mic is a professional-quality microphone, specifically designed for live vocal performance.
It employs a true condenser transducer for optimal sound reproduction. The frequency response is tailored to ensure clear vocals while reducing handling noise. The unidirectional (super cardioid) pickup pattern limits background noise and reduces the susceptibility to feedback. The 5-piece mesh head provides filtering of breath, wind, and plosive noises while not interfering with the RØDE S1's sensitivity or frequency response. The hardened mesh head also protects the precision condenser transducer from airborne contaminants and possible impact during performance and transit.

The ergonomic design of the S1 also makes it extremely comfortable to hold and control during performance. The S1 mic requires P48V phantom supply and will work with most professional mixing consoles that incorporate this standard. The high-level output of the S1 is electronically balanced to reduce loss over long cable runs with the additional benefit of high-level rejection of electromagnetic interference.

S1 Pro Vocal Condenser Microphone Specifications:

  • Operation Power: 48V
  • Output Impedance: The S1 will operate satisfactorily into a load impedance as
  • low as 1kOhm. If a load below this is used, the output signal
  • level will be reduced
  • The S1 output is balanced between pin 2 (hot) and pin 3
  • (cold). Pin 1 is ground
  • Acoustic principle: Externally polarized condenser, pressure
  • gradient transducer
  • Directional pattern: Supercardioid
  • Frequency range: 20Hz-20kHz
  • Polar pattern
  • Output impedance: 50 ohms
  • Signal/Noise ratio DIN/IEC 651: 75dB (1kHz rel 1 Pa; per IEC651, IEC268-15)
  • Equivalent noise: 18dBA SPL (per IEC651, IEC268-15)
  • Maximum SPL: 151dB (@ 0.7% THD into 1kOhm)
  • Sensitivity at 1 kHz into 1 kOhm: -46.5dB re 1 Volt/Pascal, (4.7mV @ 94dB SPL), +/- 2dB into 1kOhm
  • Maximum output voltage: +12.5dBu (@ 0.7% THD into 1kΩ)
  • Dynamic range of the mic. amplifier DIN/IEC 651: 132dB (per IEC651, IEC268-15)
  • Power (Supply voltage): Phantom supply voltage - 44V to 52V. Current consumption - 4.4 mA
  • Polarity: A positive acoustic pressure applied to the diaphragm results in a positive voltage excursion at pin 2 with respect to pin 3 at the output XLR connector
  • Connector: XLR 3F
  • Weight approx.: 10.58 oz

finally what I was looking for

Comments about Rode Microphones S1 Pro Vocal Condenser Microphone:

Having been doing gigs nearly 3 decades, I have owned every popular brand of stage mic out there. Sennheiser, Audix, E/V, Shure, AKG, Autio-Technica all on the list. I used dynamics, but caught the condenser bug with the E/V RE510, a very good mic. A condenser, in general, offers a better level of efficiency, but most condensers use electret transducers and tend to be less responsive to proximity dynamics. This is affordable having better than dynamic element performance at a reduced price point. To get a "true" condenser means serious expense. Many feel the Neumann KMS 105 is the closest thing to a "world class standard" for stage vocal mics. I tried the Rode S1 along with the Neumann, and a couple other, and now I own the Rode S1. Style, quality, full 20-20k response, the best internal breath and pop filters, great proximity response, no feedback issues. With the S1, band and audience felt I stood out in the mix had a clearer sound. I didn't have to "eat" the mic or push my voice. Need I say more?
more in this design than any at this price point.
meticulous build and stellar components
Not inexpensive, but compared to it's real competition this is a steal,

it's got the sound!

Comments about Rode Microphones S1 Pro Vocal Condenser Microphone:

Purchased this mic after being told my current vocal mic (Audix om5) was always "buried" in the mix or too "muddy", I never had an issue, sounded good in my moniotors, but, I took the plunge because I have used Rode mics in recording, knew the quality and sound, and had to see if this did truly compare to the neumann. I have used it for one gig, and I am digging it, sound was rich and full, a bit brighter than the audix, and you can hear the condenser/dynamic mic difference. Much more Detail in the vox, highly recommend!

Not The Neumann, But Close!

By B3 GUY-bu5kI

Comments about Rode Microphones S1 Pro Vocal Condenser Microphone:

I wanted a Neumann KMS105. They're in the $600 range. Sang through one once & never sounded so good. Tony Bennet's mic of choice. Sadly, can't afford it. Then I heard of this Rode S1. Tried one at a friend's who owned one. IT SOUNDED THE SAME AS THE NEUMANN! The high-end presence, low-end richness, cut-thru-the-mix- clarity...it was all there! For a lot less than the Neumann. I'm now the proud owner of a Rode S1 & thru my Mackie 808S head & Yamaha S115V speakers my vocals are just awesome! I used to sing thru a Shure Beta58 but my bandmates can't believe the difference! If you're a lead singer, buy one, you won't be sorry.
