Shure

An excellent choice for acoustic guitar and piano.

The Shure KSM137 is an end-address condenser microphone with a cardioid polar pattern. Designed for studio use, yet rugged enough for live applications, the KSM137 mic can withstand extremely high sound pressure levels. Its low self-noise and extended frequency response make it ideal for recording acoustic guitar, drum overheads, and hi-hats. Other features include Shure's Class A transformerless preamp circuitry for transparency; extremely fast transient response with minimal distortion; a highly sensitive 2.5-micron gold-layered mylar diaphragm; and a switchable, 3-position low-frequency filter to limit unwanted background noise and proximity effect. The microphone can capture sounds between 20Hz and 20kHz. The Shure KSM137 microphone sports a champagne finish and comes with accessories including a break-resistant mic clip, carrying case, and Popper Stopper windscreen.
Requires phantom power.

Drum mics

By T-gull

Comments about Shure KSM137/SL Cardioid Studio Condenser Microphone:

I have used these mics exclusively to mic toms and kick. I have 4 of them and each has performed without complication for 4 years. I get a full tom sound without an overbearing hum at the end of the note. I also love the fact that my cymbals are picked up but not so much that they cover the drum sounds. The switch that allows the db's to be decreased allows for use as a kick drum mic and the full range of the kick comes through. I am not easy on equipment. I have hit them with sticks, dropped them, and they have even gotten wet and still have performed without problem. No noise. Occasionally they will cause feed back if the snare (i use an sm57) is too loud but this is easily remedied with eq. I've been a pro for 30 years and would not be without these mics.

I Love It !

Comments about Shure KSM137/SL Cardioid Studio Condenser Microphone:

I own a matched stereo pair of Shure KSM 137's and would not want to be without them. They are packed with features, and built like a tank. They have an extended top end, but do not sound brittle or harsh in the top end like some mikes do. I love to use these for drum overheads. They also make an acoustic guitar come alive when placed at about the twelvth fret and combined with a good quality condenser close to the bridge. I have also used them on guitar amps with much success. Sort of pricy, but you get what you pay for. I admit I,m not a pro recording engineer, but I have a well equiped home studio and would have to replace these mikes if they were lost or stolen. Buy it, you'll be glad you did.
