PG81 is an excellent all around mic

Comments about Shure PG81-XLR Condenser Mic with XLR Cable:

Great mic for the price. (I accidentally reviewed the PG81-LC which I didn't realize was different from the XLR model)

These mics are probably great for other things...but not for miking choruses!! i use 4 of them and i get barely any sound from them!! I purchased 2 condenser mics and they are by far the best!!

Comments about Shure PG81-XLR Condenser Mic with XLR Cable:

There are so few names to trust anymore. I remember using a Shure Vocal master PA with the Shure 55S mics and it was the one you used because you could depend on quality sound and relability. When I heard Shure was marketing some off-shore mics I was skeptical. But I guess somewhere in Shure is still the soul with the same commitment to their mission because these PG series mics really get the job done. I've used SM57 and SM81's on my drumkits over the years at the highest level of sound venue. When I tried the PG56 on my snare and the PG81 as overheads I was sold. I went right back and bought the whole PGDMK6 drum mic kit. I really can't hear the difference between these and the SM series. And they will take a direct hit (oops) without the cap flying across the stage! Great job Shure Thanks for helping out the working musician who wants the best sound but can't afford the highest price gear. I still trust you and I hope that never changes!

can't go wrong with this one!

Comments about Shure PG81-XLR Condenser Mic with XLR Cable:

I bought this to mic my guitar cab for recording (the SM57 is great for live stuff, but just doesn't pick up the tube tone when recording and I didn't want to drop $350 on a SM81) and it gave great sounds overhead my bandmate's drumset so I'm going to be picking up a few more just for drumset stuff. It also sounds great using two in stereo to mic my symphonic band's performances for recording and I didn't have to spend $700+ on shotgun mics for it. The PG series mics seem to be getting very close to the SM series lately, I actually can't tell the difference between my SM/PG57s and SM/PG58s. quality is good as long as you don't mistreat it. Don't drop it, don't use it as a hammer, and don't mic a cranked 150w tube rig with it. Overall, it's great price/performance ratio!

    Great value, good sound!

Comments about Shure PG81-XLR Condenser Mic with XLR Cable:

If you are on a small budget like me, you will love this mic - as an overhead, for the hi-hat, ride, whatever - it's great! You can use it as the small diaphragm mic for acoustic guitars... whatever, it's got great versatility. Even Shure's cheaper line of mics is great!
