A stereo condenser microphone with selectable pickup patterns.

The TASCAM TM-ST1 condenser microphone offers stereo pattern switching. The battery-powered TM-ST1 mic's back-electret condenser yields crisply detailed audio. The TASCAM TM-ST1 stereo mic also offers long battery life for portable recording. Select between 90° and 120° pickup to capture more ambiance or to reduce background noise.

The TM-ST1 mic's output cable terminates to a 3.5mm stereo jack, making it a perfect microphone for TASCAM recorders and live recording. Plug the TM-ST1 mic into the portable TASCAM DR-1, or use it with the DP-02, DP-02CF or 2488mkII Digital Portastudios (with an adapter cable). The mic can also be used with the US-122L or US-144 for portable recording into a laptop.

The TASCAM TM-ST1 stereo microphone excels at recording live music, school ensembles, worship ceremonies, songwriter demos and album recordings. The mid-side design captures a wide stereo field while maintaining a solid center image. With its adjustable stereo range to control ambiance and crowd noise, your recordings can capture everything you want and nothing you don't.

TASCAM includes a microphone clip, table-top stand and windscreen with the stereo TM-ST1 condenser microphone.

I was looking for a remote mic to connect to my Sony PCM-M10 portable digital recorder for piano recording. I put the TASCAM TM-ST1 on a boom stand about 12 inches above the soundboard, 8 inches back from the action and slightly to to the left of middle C (toward the high side) on a grand piano. The mic was aimed toward the front of the piano and the piano lid was wide open. I had the record level set on auto, mic sensitivity set on HI. The record mode was set to LCPM 48.00 kHz/24 bit. The mic power switch was set on 120 degrees. The recordings came out clean with excellent stereo. The right side of the mic was aimed toward the high notes and the left side was toward the low end which makes you feel like you are sitting at the piano while listening. The combination of the Sony PCM-10 and the TASCAM TM-ST1 is amazing. I wish I could go back and re-record some projects with this combination!
    120 degree stereo works great.
    Good quality for the price.

I bought this mic for a few reasons: convenient design, good price, good reviews, decent brand, and I really needed a new mic. It was okay at first, I used it to record guitar and vocals. However I've had it for a few months now and I'm ready to throw it against a wall. It has very poor recording quality that seems to get worse as time goes on. Now I have tried it with several different types of recording software and I get the same poor result every time. It's hard to even capture sound with its "tubular" like design, unless it is literally centered right on the noise to be recorded it will not be audible in playback, even when it is switched to the 120 degrees setting, the sides of it pick up absolutely nothing. Do not plan to record a room full of guitar players, you won't be able to get them all at once. It's not even good for a personal recorder because it only picks up sound within 2 – 3 inches of the front of itself and with the slightest movement to and from it the recorded voice drastically changes up and down in volume. Overall this mic was a let down, I regret buying it.

Comments about TASCAM TM-ST1 Stereo Condenser Microphone:

I bought this microphone to use with the Tascam DR2. I found the internal mics. in the DR2 provided better sound quality than this external mic. The mic also emitted a constant buzz which I could not get rid of by level adjsutment etc. Returned the mic and received a refund from Musicians Friend promptly.

Comments about TASCAM TM-ST1 Stereo Condenser Microphone:

Bought the TM-ST1 to use w/ a Tascam handheld model DR-07 digital recorder..the DR-07 has built in mics which were clipping cymbals horribly (or the two built ins were out of phase..dunno) Being a powered mic and also a tascam product decided to experiment and roll w/ the value priced TM-ST1 condenser..preliminary results are excellent...we are recording live 3 piece in a shop building at rehearsal volumes ..Loud...(bass, drums, one guitar, vocals on PA)....set the DR-07 in wav mode w/ low gain...wowee, what an improvement. Was able to import raw wavs into Audacity and tweak dB levels and experiment w/ EQ/Compression w/ ease.

So far so good... I do not know if this mic would be suited for high quality studio recording, but if you are looking for better sound from a handheld that has built-in mics w/ a stereo line-in bypass, I would say your pesos could not be spent better. Get rid of the "Kersplash Ker splash" and try it....

Next is to take it to a club and see how live shows come out...nice.

Comments about TASCAM TM-ST1 Stereo Condenser Microphone:

I recently bought this because I wanted something more powerful than my $10 mic that I had originally bought for recording a few years ago. It definitely is a step up. It has a lot more power and picks things up nicely. It comes with a weighted clip, so you can set it on a tabletop or put it on a stand, as well as holding it to record vocals. The only thing I'm still struggling with is getting the proper position so that it doesn't emphasize p's and h's. It seems very sensitive to the extra air that comes through on the fricative consonants, which is taking some getting used to. All in all, though, I am very pleased with this microphone. I highly recommend it.

I bought this stereo microphone to record my performances on the piano and was disappointed to find that without substantial gain boosts it would not work at all. It appears to be designed for voice at close range and works very well when limited to that application. However, when I read the specs and saw that it supported 90 and 120 degree separation, I thought it would be more useful than just for close range work.

I got this for like nothing on the "stupid deal of the day." I would pay full price now, though, had I known how great it is. Plugged into my laptop with Audacity software and recorded an entire band practice from center front of room. PERFECT! AMAZING. I did minimal EQ/compression with my extremely limited knowledge of that stuff, and I have excellent demo material, which you can hear at nine mile creek dot info. STEREO, amazing. What a great little mic for simple recording-ignorant/poor technophobes like me!
