3x Optical Zoom Photos
The PD2 provides a 3x optical zoom for photos dramatically increasing the field of view. This capability is virtually unmatched in the pocket camcorder segment of the digital camcorder market today. The wide angle lens provides an extensive range for video (36mm - 108mm) and photos (37mm - 111mm).

High Speed Sequential Photo Mode

The PD2 features a sequential "photo" shooting mode. When this mode is selected, the camera will take multiple photos in sequential order; providing multiple photo frames. Exceeded expectations

Comments about Sanyo VPC-PD2 Full HD Pocket Movie Dual Camera:

Just got this in as a "Stupid Deal of the Day", be prepared to spend some money (prox $100)on an SD card, a mini HDMI cable and possibly a spare battery. Having said that, once I downloaded the PDF manual the unit was very easy to operate and the picture that it displayed on my 52" LCD television exceeded my expectations. I find the 3x optical zoom (motorized) sufficient for my needs around the house and the files can be transferred to computer fairly easily. The quality of displaying video clips on the computer can vary depending on RAM/OS, etc but the picture direct to TV is virtually flawless.

Comments about Sanyo VPC-PD2 Full HD Pocket Movie Dual Camera:

All things considered, this isn't a bad little unit. But, it's not a great unit. I'd give it better marks if the microphones could be adjusted to an x-y pattern and it was better in low-light situations.
Stereo audio recording. Optical and digital zooming. The only reason I did not give this a "10" is because: (1) no means for monitoring the sound input or to adjust the levels, (2) the microphones are set in a 180-degree pattern and no capability to change the pattern, and (3) it does not handle available light situations well. I've posted one clip on youtube of a friend singing at a Good Friday church service and the sound quality is not bad, but you cannot see more than a silhouette because of the low lighting conditions.
The construction seems a little flimsy, but no worse than most cell phones.
All things considered: stereo recording and the zoom capability, this is not a bad value to filming family outings, reunions, on the go recordings of weddings and stuff like that.

Adequate but not great!

Comments about Sanyo VPC-PD2 Full HD Pocket Movie Dual Camera:

As noted, the biggest plus going for this unit is its ability to record a stereo audio track. The downside is that there is no way to monitor the audio signal while recording.
This is a battery hog and the mfr. only includes one 3.7-volt Li-ion battery. It has no provisions for external power. And, according to the manual, the battery will only last for about 65 minutes on recording. So buyers of this unit will have to plan on purchasing a spare battery and external charger as well.
Given the fact that it is so minimal, and anyone planning on using this must plan on spending at least another $50 or so for spare batteries and a memory card, it's not really a bargain compared to the Flip. Unfortunately, the Flip line of camcorders is no longer being made.
I'll rate this a bit higher than average for it's price range because it does record stereo sound.
However, that said, it's not the best thing since sliced bread because there is no way to manually review/monitor the sound level while recording--not even a headphone/ear bud output jack. The internal speaker is worthless because there is no volume control--so you have to transfer the video to a PC or play it back through a TV to check the sound levels--after the fact.
While it has optical zoom capability, this does not work during the video recording process. One must zoom in prior to starting the recording," that becomes the starting point for digital zoom.
The mfr only provides one battery and the only way to charge the battery is by connecting it to a computer via USB cable. The charging process takes about 3 hours. It has no provisions to use external power.
Quality is so-so. The case is lightweight and not sturdy at all. The silver trim is not very durable and is made of a very cheap grade of plastic--think in terms of the ""chrome"" trim on a model car kit from Hobby Lobby.
For its price range", its performance is equal to Kodak and Flip camcorders of a similar nature. The edge this has is solely its ability to record a stereo audio.
What makes this less than a value is that having shelled out the price for it, the purchaser must then purchase a memory card (SDHC preferred)--

Not for Pro-Audio

By MotherEarth Sound

Comments about Sanyo VPC-PD2 Full HD Pocket Movie Dual Camera:

this captures good HD movie.but if you want a quality of condenser mic, this is not for you. it records better sound than other handy cam, but you can't adjust a volume level. since the recording volume is already set up at high level, it makes signal noise you can notice through headphone. so I end up using regular condenser mic for audio and capturemovie with this one.if you want best of both world, buy Zoom.

Comments about Sanyo VPC-PD2 Full HD Pocket Movie Dual Camera:

PROS: HD-quality video capture, stereo audio, comparative low cost to other video capure devices.CONS: No memory card included, no strap, no case, no headphone jack or mic/line jack, no controls to manually adjust/correct sound levels. Image stabilization does not work as advertised. The construction is flimsy.Bottom line: pass on this and spend some extra $$ on a Zoom Q3HD.
