Comments about Meinl Hand Hammered Big Mouth Cowbell:

Keeping this short as it happened few years ago.I bought 8 Big Mouth.. It split not on Seam but on the front... Complained to Meinl .. Response, " I was hittin too hard " ??? Got a second one , after returning the Split one , @ my cost .. Same happened split... Considering I only use it on 2 tunes we play, this should never have happened, Never bothered after that... Went back to using an old LP I had for years , even though it looks battered, still never SPLIT

Meinl Hand Hammered Big Mouth Cowbell

        By Nick Cox

Comments about Meinl Hand Hammered Big Mouth Cowbell:

Meinl is by far my favorite company when it comes to cymbals and percussion. Now this cowbell is the best one I've owned by and large, but there are only a few things the buyer should be aware of. Before I get into the minor negatives I want to get the praise out of the way. This cowbell is a really beauty, it has strong hardware that keeps it from moving when being played (*ahem* Latin Percussion *ahem*), and has a great low tone. Overall its a great cowbell that I'd suggest for anyone to get. The only couple of negatives are these. The cowbell isn't as dry as what I was looking for, especially since it is hand hammered. Something in my mind made me think the ring would be minimal, and maybe it is compared to a standard cowbell, but I wanted it to be always all attack with 0 ring. Now Meinl does have a solution, they have a little felt on a knob that you can tighten on the cowbell to dial in the prime amount of ring for your preference. This is a brilliant idea, but I've abandoned this for the most part, and am currently looking to uninstall this piece from the cowbell. It really just doesn't stay up on the cowbell while your hitting it, and since it loosens you're back the original ring you were looking to kill. My plan is to just take out the piece and place a small amount of duct tape on the inside of the bell to kill the small amount of ring. Or maybe I'll just deal with the ring. No matter what, I don't regret the purchase and would suggest it to anyone.
