Comments about Avid Pro Tools 10 to 11 Upgrade Student (Activation Card):
This may come as a shock to long-time users of Pro-Tools who have amassed vast collections of plugins, which may-or-may-not have been updated recently to support the new architecture - Pro-Tools 11 is 64-bit ONLY. It does not support any of your 32-bit plugins anymore. That means you're going to have to update ALL your plugins to work with PT11, and if the plugin hasn't been updated or, worse, the company is out of business or has moved on to a new version of the plugin and is only updating that one, you'll have to buy/upgrade every one of your plugins to replace it.
Pro-Tools' answer to this? You can open your mix in PT 10, which is 32 bit, as well as PT 11, which is 64. 64 bit Logic X opens 32 bit plugins, but immediately scales your session back to 32 bit when you open one. So, in essence, they do the same thing, just one is more upfront about it. But you can't do offline bounce in PT 10, and you can in 32 bit Logic X. Darn.
Why not upgrade both to the same functionality and have PT 10 be literally the 32 bit version of PT 11? That would just make too much sense.
